Great resource! Thanks for the link. Most of my vim tips are on my .vimrc (my dotfiles here https://github.com/carlesfe/dotfiles/blob/master/.vimrc ) and on the links on my homepage: http://mmb.pcb.ub.es/~carlesfe/#programming_h3 . The .t

NFS basically breaks the client computer until the host responds, while SMB detects the I/O error earlier and, at least, doesn't hang the terminal. Other than that, SMB allows for permissions and a bunch of other features. It is, basically,

It doesn't handle it. You just upload the image to a public folder in your server, then link it from your html content. All pages are edited with vim and treated as plain HTML, there is no post processing --except for adding dates, header

So happy to see this on HN! Actually I took most of the tips from unix threads here and r/commandline, I highly recommend that subreddit if you like this kind of tricks! Edit: also, @climagic: https://twitter.com/climagic Second edit: I'm

Author here. Feel free to drop any comments, this was a "weekend project" as I couldn't find anything as simple as that. By the way, I recently uploaded the code to github: https://github.com/carlesfe/bashblog and some people are using i

I agree with your point. Most of us here are experts and have click-to-plugin addons installed. However, as Schneider states, the person is always the weakest link. I've been on the internet for a few years, as a kid, and never got into phi

Maybe the point of the video is to illustrate Europe's diversity. I personally very much like that a person can express on their own language if subtitles are provided.

Thanks for the tip, but it's not what I aim for. You say you use Inferno over Linux. It's my daily linux apps I would want to tweak: Firefox, mutt, vim, eog, etc. I don't want to learn about operating systems... I just want to hack my daily

I already know about Inferno, but unfortunately, it's an experiment and can't be used on a daily basis. Some of the underlying ideas are great, though!

Open source/Free software should be used by governments not because it's gratis, but rather because it can be audited and modified by public servants. Implementing a free solution costs money in training, deployment, etc. But I'd rather pay

All of this seems reasonable, so by extension, I assume that the current system is really unreasonable. I mean, not even making the trolls pay for the legal costs if they lose? That's outrageous

Not trying to belittle this project, but I don't get its appeal. The magic of pictures, for me, are perfectly timed ones, not blurry and random photographs or storing and going through 3k pics/day to check "today's good one" Has anybody don

My lifetime picture library is around 100GB. Actually, it doesn't fit in my MBAir's 128GB SSD, so I need to have it on an external HD. Then, if we start counting work files... many of us work in data analysis, and the datasets can easily re

Not everybody lives in the US, you know. In Europe we have NFC in our credit cards. You put your wallet close to the register, write your PIN, and pay. Few small stores support NFC, though. I'm not saying that's the reason why Apple ditched

For me, the main reason not to switch 100% to the console is the web browser. There is no fb browser with proper CSS and HTML5 support. At work, I have a dual monitor setup, one of them with a browser, the other with a console running 'scre

Not before, but in the afternoon. For example, I exercise from 19-20 and go to sleep at midnight. But if I have a football match at, say, 23, then it's impossible to go to sleep afterwards, I'm too tired. Try whatever works for you. Humans
