The problem with Facebook's mechanism for "hiding people" is that until you go through immense effort, your experience sucks. The "Acquaintances" list (which I might add was a knee-jerk reaction to the launch of Google+) only serves to take

Funny how much a lot of this person's complaints ring exactly like a Google+ marketing campaign, and yet no one has really mentioned Google+ yet. I totally agree, and that's not to say that Google+'s stream isn't equally filled with content

Regarding email formatting, I'm pretty sure that for a given message once you click on the formatting tools once, the bar stays open because they know you are formatting things.

Yeah, I find in general that Google's Android apps are more focused on functionality (regardless of if that makes it a bit in your face), whereas iOS they've focused a lot more on simpler design. I guess it matches the cultures and users of

I'm not surprised at all. The mobile market is a much more compelling _user scenario_ than desktop, both in terms of the user-need and the user-interface. On mobile, the user-need can be satisfied much better with additional sensor data tha

While I do appreciate clean URLs, the reason behind all those random obfuscated query parameters in Google's url is not a mystery. They are hidden indicators that are only available at query time and/or experimentation flags and things like

While this is bad, I do feel like anyone using a hosted wallet like Coinbase where you directly link a bank account (which I think is rare among bitcoin exchanges, etc) can't be expecting full anonymity. Coinbase is a registered company and

Yes, but those are also the ONLY clickable options (and only visual elements, consistently in a list) on the entire screen. This does not hold true (in most cases) for a website / webapp.

I'm not saying I don't like the Facebook gift product. I tried it out a few times, and you're right - they nailed it. The virtual card and slow reveal as the user clicks through (then it shows up unwrapped on the wall, etc) is awesome and a

Do you really believe the success (at this time in technology) of general-purpose AI has a strong correlation to the potential for human labor to be replaced by machine labor? It would seem with the plethora of startups being created every

Don't agree 100%, but the quality of FB overall as a product has definitely degraded as of late as they've been pushing Gifts, Commerce, and other revenue streams onto users very strongly. I've noticed several annoying redesigns / changes t

Don't think so... the article talks about the driving factors in the decisions made at Stripe when designing the API that should be exposed as the product of the company. The article isn't about how to use Stripe's API to build stuff, it is

Yes, but the reasons are somewhat different. If anything, startup costs have gone down with technology costs and as access to technology increases. The problem now is that with the great saturation of these consumer web startups, and the "s

Great call out on a reasonable strategy for Microsoft to remain successful, albeit less relevant in the consumer market. (There is another comment alluding to taking the route of IBM, cementing their place in enterprise but sacrificing the

I can see the parallel in terms of organic and paid content, but unfortunately as a social-networking medium Facebook's users will probably be much less receptive or happy to see the paid content than Google users. Dalton is right that adve

That someone believes they deserve admission to a specific set of schools as much as someone else who is working 10-100x harder with the specific goal of attaining admission to those schools? Yes, I believe that is entitlement.
