I admit to some naivety on the issue, but it seems like these retirement plans have a some exposure when it comes to inflation. Looking at the world economy and the unprecedented measures that were/are being taken to avoid inflation (fed. r

Well, we can split hairs on language, but 'steal' - 'to take or appropriate without right or leave and with intent to keep or make use of wrongfully'. This pretty much sums up the situation described by the article. Notice that I'm not maki

How could anyone give you an estimate? We have no idea the amount of corporate drag associated with this. In theory, it could be a large cost considering this is a large enterprise which has to meet many, many customer information and priva

IBM has done this forever. Its called soft licensing. (or at least that is what their term was) It not a free copy. If you use this and they have proof, you would be sued for violating the licenses. Its the same as stealing. Just because th

The entire time I'm reading the article and the comments, I'm just mentally jaw-dropped by these comments. We are no where near the top of the 's-curve' for computational or industrial technology. The entire argument is a straw man by Kaspa

We are using GA to track mobile apps. The local queuing and dispatch of hits to GA is covered here[1]. We've found it to be pretty reliable. You can also modify the dispatch time for testing, etc. [1] https://developers.google.com/analytics

At the risk of going off topic, a question about sampling and sampling rates. If I set sampling to 1%, will the visitor totals in the Google Analytics dashboards reflect 1% of my true values or do they compensate/extrapolate out to 100% bas

As an Android developer, its really exciting to see good examples of the tools in action. The documentation on how to debug problems beyond crashes/ANRs is a bit thin. That being said, I do have one gripe. There are some chasms between the

I understand your point about not assuming, but I generally get negative feelings about companies that don't communicate clearly when they make decisions for me that cost me money. I think that is the authors primary gripe.

The original article was a commentary on Heroku with a short conclusion which included a comparison to the authors experience with AWS. Your comment reads like an ad for a third service which isn't at all related to the original article. If

There is a misconception, extremely prevalent on HN and in the startup community, that you're dead at 35. Really, if you are 25 and not certain about what you want to do, the real 'risk' you should be taking is trying something completely d

Even though the features lag behind some of the more 'flexible, newer' languages, its exciting to see some of these come down the pipe. After using libraries like Google's Guava, I'm anxious to see some more functional-esque styles get inte

I really feel like there is an educational opportunity for the HN community about patents. We frequently have these articles where the title of the patent is copy pasted into a submission to generate the largest amount of hysteria possible.
