So, it sounds like 'spriting' in this context is a way of sending a stitched together larger image and then showing a portion of it in each uiimage. I work on Android, and I'm interested in the technique but just was looking for some valida

I can confirm IBM uses an evaluation technique that is modeled off the stack technique. All employees have a band for their job. Rank employees by performance per band. Then assign raises/promos based on performance relative to band. I can

I'm baffled by this statement. You seem to be drawing comparisons between Flash and Java when Flash's use cases would describe about 10% of the use cases of Java. Are you referring to Java in the browser only? Or are you referring to all Ja

How hard would it be just to expose the information on who up-voted an article? That would leave it open to easy mining to figure out up-voting trends.

I'd only read about not being able to replace the HDD, but permanent memory modules? I'd say this is news, since I haven't heard of this situation in any other computer in recent memory. Of course now i read that Mac Airs do the same, so i

The knowledge is esoteric to what is being done. I know its convenient to believe so, but there are smart people that make mistakes. Misusing one of these methods isn't discouraged because its obvious, its discouraged because it fails in no

Aren't you as the person providing the application ultimately responsible for knowledge of what library calls work well and, thus, which you should use? I think Zed's cautionary statements are merely summarizing a bunch of his experiences,

One additional concern on this: the cost is hidden. My current company sometimes misses this issue. The developer you've outsourced to can take 1.5x but if that slows down not just his items but dependent work, the cost can be very difficul

Its not surprising to me at all that you guys have spent a lot of time thinking about this. I think people with a legitimate use case for not hosting their plugins on the webstore will be able to cope with the workaround.

I have spent a few minutes trying to think of an alternative to this. I understand that users getting tricked into installing malware is a big issue. I think we, as developers, are paying a bit of a price for the number of popups we used to

Author here. Thanks for reading. I concede that its possible to manage Bitmaps without issue. But I'd argue there are tons of resources (and SO questions) because the system in place is such a mess. Recycling bitmaps manually is a non-funct

So, you should balance this. There are lots of people out there that do well serving ads. It really depends on your product and your alternative avenues to revenue. It is a cautionary tale, but you shouldn't close the door because of that.

Your comment only makes sense under the argument that when a user purchases an app, the developer is indebted to the user to provide future functionality of any variety. Maintenance should not be expected for free. New features should not b
