It seems to me that productivity is the assumed goal. But that is not the whole story. I also enjoy using Emacs. I appreciate and support its commitment to free software. I like that everything is customisable. Also, I wonder if it would

Your interpretation of my comment seems to me to have taken my meaning in a way I did not intend it. I don't want to argue your points because I was not making a statement in the mathematical sense, nor academic philosophical sense. Th

I find it interesting that you think this might be a problem for some people. My experience would perhaps, if pushed to, lead me to conclude the opposite.

They seem to start talking about stacks and leaves of stacks, as if one should only test at leaves. Surely this is woefully inaccurate? Isn't the point of tests to test behaviour? Sure be specific about behaviour. And sure, unit tests

With regards to peer-programming, or code-reviews, I don't think I could comment. Personally I am a firm believer in test it, and see what works. This is the main benefit of 1-1 teaching. In a class room setting you can, and perhaps sh

It depends on the student. Don't make assumptions. Observe and test them frequently. How you should teach them will be driven by this, and nothing else. Btw, I ran a tutoring company for 8 years with over 6k tutors.

I think this problem is essentially the age old problem of refactor or add features. Its manifestation in the data world, from an awareness perspective might benefit from similar solutions. I imagine there is plenty of advice about that. Pe

AGI is almost certainly not the single biggest existential threat. And I don't really get why people think it might be.

This is what MVPs are all about, surely? Amazon may have vast resources, but they are not infinite. Amazon strategy seems sound from a business perspective.

I wonder if initial crudeness actually has a _strictly positive_ contribution to the likelihood of success. Perhaps the form of the product has a role in setting expectations. If so this would have a role in attracting forgiving first custo

Mindfulness is not a well-defined term and can be used to mean different things depending on the speaker or author. Typically, I imagine, it is mostly used in a meditation context, often from Buddhism or derived practices. In that context i

Suffering is a form of indulgence. The pain can exist and you can be fully aware of it, but if you don't indulge in it there will be no suffering. It just is. One of the components of this is desire for an alternative. This combined wi

You should only do things for love OR money, but not both. Don't spread yourself thin serving two masters. Serving one, often brings the other, but both should not be your goal. If you do things for love, and also seek out money, your
