I would guess most people who listen to music while they work have the volume way too far up for that amount of exposure. Anyone on an iPhone should go into Sounds -> Headphone Safety and reduce loud audio to 75 dB. You'll probably

I broadly agree, but would draw this out a little: > Its just that American lawmakers don't value traditional American family, they'd rather woman have an abortion, instead of subsidized childcare and 12+ months of paid family

This feels like a really good starting point to me, but I just want to point out that there's a very low ceiling on the effectiveness of "carefulness". I can spend 8 hours scrutinizing code looking for problems, or I can spen

Yeah but phrasing/negotiating it this way obfuscates it a little. If you're in negotiations and you ask for $60k/yr more gross, then it's clear you're asking for more than a PA would cost (maybe, factor in total com

Yeah I admit when I was writing this little comparison I was trying to guess how many trees it would take to build the typical cabin and I was like "woof that's a lot of trees". So, yeah fair.

There's a difference between clearing a few trees for a cabin vs desalinating and pumping millions of gallons of water and transforming the ecology of a state.

Totally agree. I'm a little embarrassed by it tbh; to me it feels like a big failure of nerd governance. We should be able to manage this, but I think we're pretty close to having to admit that we can't.

There are plenty of good things written in languages with weaker type systems than TypeScript (Linux, your browser, HN). Using C/C++ or a dynamic language doesn't immediately make you incompetent.

I'm pretty naive about this stuff, but IMO IPv6 is a lot more empowering than v4. You aren't dependent on some owner of v4 addresses for access, you don't need to manage--and aren't forced into--NAT, and you (probably) g

Yeah came here to say this. The central argument Anduril makes here is preposterous, to the point where it feels like the whole enterprise is entirely unserious. Let's ask a basic logic question here: if the supposition is that one sid

Maybe, but the point here isn't that Uber underperforms, it's that their innovations didn't sufficiently expand the market. I'm arguing cab companies saw that coming, whereas Uber/SV didn't and spent billions o

I think we're doing a lot of work to get into the mind of cab companies, but along those lines: they weren't interested because the market isn't really that large. Uber is barely profitable now after raising rates tremendousl

Basically everyone I know only goes to the dentist when something very specific is wrong, and they're all fine. I'm honestly very suspicious of the whole dental enterprise.
