Agreed. The author will most likely argue they "released it so uber would fix it". That could have easily been done anonymously then released once the exploit was stopped. They wouldn't get all the attention and shares if t

It's going to take a long time for the general public to learn to trust "random" or non-recognised domain names. I'd expect .com/.co.uk/.net/.org to perform better conversion wise.
