It seems to me that the money question confounds two factors. As I recall (possibly incorrectly), studies find that increased pay doesn't correlate with increased work / productivity. That's probably true. If I'm working

Author here. Very curious of HN community's thoughts on this idea. Would you use such a system? What for? Why or why not? We're considering whether to build out the avatar conferencing system. As mentioned in the blog, there are s

Cool. Looks like that is on Netflix, so will have to check it out. Do they make the idea look promising? Or really dumb?

Agreed asynchronous communications can have a ton of benefit as mentioned in the article (fewer meetings, schedule flexibility). But on the other hand, taken to the extreme, this also can lead to just the isolation the article mentions. I s

Probably true. The extra requirements on durability probably make it rediculous. But I still prefer my reporting to at least attempt to give pros and cons and reasoned arguments. It's too easy to quote a number on infrastructure projec

Wow. That's a really negative article. Focus is completely on the cost of a proof of concept project. What is the promised ultimate cost? (Not that promises come true or anything...)

Slack audio calling is using webRTC tech. On Chrome, you can check out statistics and configuration for how they set up the call by going to chrome://webrtc-internals I checked, and it looks like they are using pretty standard web

Yeah, at the lithography company, only senior "can't lose them" people were even given this option. And not like it was offered, just that the option could be taken by not giving much of a choice. That probably bothered some
