There is also https://rallyforrestaurants.com/ Great to see people coming up with creative ways to support the restaurant community. These efforts should be critical to keep the business running and take out and delivery wi

I don't think that the devices themselves need to be hackable so much as the protocols need to be open. Any phone I buy works with any router. I think that's the kind of openness we need.

I like this thought. What would it take to certify the form? 10 hours a month? 20? Can you redirect other people on your team to work on this? When it is broken down to a cost (time) calculation then it might actually become reasonable to i

I dislike Lombok. One reason I dislike it is that it makes IDE navigation, even with a required Lombok plugin, more difficult. A common task in a Java IDE is finding usages. It's harder with Lombok. Generally it's just more fricti

We're looking at their Tinker[1] open source library for hot patching Android apps. They seem to have quite a few other projects on Github. [1] https://github.com/Tencent/tinker

Yes! It took me a while to track this down. They weren't really even included until OpenJDK 10. 11 is better but still missing some certificates.

I love this idea of adding real dollar cost to messaging. At the very least you would have a pile of money to go with your pile of harassing messages. That seems like an improvement. And you'd take money away from harassers. Making thi

I wonder if we were at a plateau with aviation that we are now ascending out of. Look at drones and multi-copters and advancements from SpaceX for example. I agree with the main argument that I think you were making. We cannot assume that t

It's nice to see an article like this every once and a while to remind myself that there is so much about programming still to learn. I particularly liked the javascript examples so I could play with them in my scratch pad. I am still

The 32GB RAM bump is huge. This will be the first MacBook that has greater than 16GB of RAM since 2012. That's a 6 year plateau where MacBook RAM was capped at 16GB. Meanwhile that whole time RAM prices dropped and servers and desktops

GDPR has much higher punishments for breaking it than previous EU privacy laws. Many companies are taking the legislation seriously due to this. I expect GDPR to be actually useful in moving the line for privacy.

You can run ubuntu natively without a VM on windows 10. It works really well. Also configuring Linux is not the beast that it was years ago. Even on laptops it is fairly straightforward. I feel the pain here too. It feels like macbooks have

These are 4 great points. I really like the 2 & 3 about heterogeneous work and resources. No work is just the same in eng and no devs or QA are even the same. Not a widget factory! I do think that scrum and sprints are worth the bothe

My first thought is that maybe there is an issue with inner class definitions here. Not sure how you'd define an inner data class but I'm guessing it would be similar to regular classes. If I have a `public class data` already in
