Yes. Now all I want is something like Rust traits or Swift protocols for unions.

I had to rescue a redux-saga project that went badly off the rails. It was one of the most inscrutable and difficult to debug codebases I've ever had to work with. Forget completely about ever having a usable stack trace.

People have done some fantastic stuff in Max but it's definitely the wrong level of abstraction for me. Too low level for dealing with music on a more conceptual level and too awkward for lower level coding compared to text based langu

The problem is it’s increasingly difficult to pick out the Mozarts from the vast sea of Salieris.

What this current generation of "AI" tech seems to enable, more than anything else, is efficiently generating massive volumes of mediocre content. I'm not sure whose problems that's supposed to solve but it certainly isn

I'm not the one arguing that a particular technique doesn't scale or that its advocates don't know what they're doing. Of course you can build big things with semantic CSS. You also can with Tailwind.

I guess you missed the part where I said I have used it successfully on several large codebases?

No it's more like functional programming with small, single-purpose elements. Semantic CSS is more like object oriented programming with big bloated classes with poorly designed and leaky abstractions.

I've often found that people that want to criticize Tailwind immediately dismiss anyone that likes it as lacking understanding of CSS. I've been writing CSS since 1997 and tried every fad technique that's come along. Tailwind

I’ve used Tailwind successfully on several large codebases. It’s the only approach to CSS I’ve used that didn’t make me hate styling HTML.

After all, to some degree, human intelligence is also "just a fancy autocomplete" built from a giant network of interacting nodes. I don't think we understand human intelligence well enough to say this with any certainty. A

We are special in that nobody wants to spend the time to spec software in detail up front and we usually make major changes to requirements in the middle of the process. If we had something like a detailed blueprint before writing a line of

Ron Amadeo is so relentlessly critical of Google I've stopped reading his articles. Overall I find coverage on Ars to be pretty good but he really seems to have an axe to grind.

Immerjs is close enough to language level immutable data structures that I don't miss them that much. I'm hoping the proposal for match syntax finally lands. Something like Swift's protocols would be nice. TS inherits some un

If Apple wants to position WebKit as an important independent implementation of web standards it needs to run on more than just Apple hardware. I shouldn’t have to own a Mac an an iPhone to test my code on Safari.

To completely dismiss Sgt Pepper is about as close to objectively wrong as you can get in music criticism.

Hard evidence is hard to obtain for something as varied and unrigorous as software. After 25 years of working on all kinds of codebases I’ll take even badly engineered statically typed code over dynamic any day of the week including Sunday.

This is a false equivalence. You need all the help you can get maintaining large codebases and static typing is a huge help.

I’ve also found it not that much harder to do scripting kinds of things in Rust vs Ruby or Python. It’s a bit of extra effort of course but having a nice self contained binary at the end is pretty handy.

The slow animation you can’t disable easily cuts my typing speed in half too. The keyboard experience on Android is so much better it’s almost enough to keep me on that platform alone.

I think you're right at least in the near term but I wouldn't be surprised to see a low-friction browser based music production tool start to rapidly build a following the way that Rebirth or Fruity Loops did in their day. Especia

Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky but I’ve been staying in Airbnbs all over the world for ten years now and this hasn’t happened to me yet. Bad Wi-Fi is a dealbreaker for me because I work remote.

The problem is that for longer stays the typical hotel room is a lot less comfortable than an Airbnb apartment or condo with more space and a kitchen and without weird hotel WiFi that often barely works at all.

Especially frustrating is the slow animation on the autocorrect suggestions. It significantly slows my typing speed and annoys me every time I have to use it and there's no way to turn it off. This alone pushes me towards Android phone

This is not accurate. There’s a JS bridge to a lot of non native elements. You can get acceptable performance out of RN if you know what you’re doing but it will never match true native code.
