I'm all in on Go and enjoy how the toolchain simplifies things so you can just think about writing code. But I am not a fan of this. I don't want my compiler to execute remote code uninstructed.

It's obvious that the spirit of a rule that says "no vehicles in the park" actually means "do not cause inconvenience or ruin the serenity of the park." A person in a wheelchair, nor an astronaut passing overhead do

So many disasters are caused by hubris. Titanic and Chernobyl are well known examples, but you can find many more horrifying stories on a YouTube channel called Fascinating Horror. https://www.youtube.com/@FascinatingHorror

My fear with using a service like this is that the company will vanish and I'll have hundreds of accounts tied to a dead domain. Or it gets snapped up by a bad actor. A few years ago I had my eye on idbloc.co which as far as I can tell

I tried forcing myself to finish a personal project before moving on to the next one. I've just ended up procrastinating and getting nothing done for the past 6 months. In turn, that has created a cycle of guilt and anxiety making me n

Came here to write the same thing. How have Apple pulled this off? I remember watching one of Meta's researchers describe the extreme challenges, such as the fovea wobbling as it moves. They made it out to be unachievable any time soon

Wow, I almost can't believe that video is real, it's like a parody. Ads for the British Forces are a bit more modest and don't present bombing as some kind of heroic action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWQ

I think it will be more like iOS for three reasons: 1. Apple don't want to be associated with smutty content, which it will inevitably be used for with sideloading (people will find an App Store approved way anyway) 2. The headset is f

How can you say that before trying? Have you ever tried VR? You can see the pixels, it's not at all immersive. I find it hard to believe that Apple have somehow invented revolutionary display technology before Meta/Oculus who have

I heard that Jensen actually saw one of the cooks take the fries out of the frier and remembered that the British called them chips, spurring an inspiration to create a new kind of chips.

My opinion of him changed when he started fear mongering in an attempt to exaggerate the current abilities of machine learning and present OpenAI as more impactful than it actually is.

There was a blog post on HN recently about a guy's experience reporting an issue to Google and they got a similar dismissive WONTFIX in robotic corp-speak. Security researchers should have a direct hotline to actual employees (engineer

Fuck you, Reddit. A guy develops an app way better than your dogshit for FREE and now you want to charge him for API calls? Frankly you should be paying him, and it should be a lot of money!

GPT's knowledge isn't up to date enough to know about the feature I mentioned. No, it wasn't written by GPT. It wasn't clear to me from the post that superoptimisation pertains to optimisation of machine code only.

I've found GPT to be pretty good at cleaning up code. I've pasted in isolated blocks of code, asked it to tidy it up, and it often has nice suggestions. There's a feature coming to Copilot where you can select code in-editor

Not a C++ developer but nodiscard is gross in my opinion. I've seen codebases littered with it for no good reason. Why should you care if the caller uses the return value or not?
