Most people in the West are way higher up on Maslow's pyramid than people in the developing world. There's no arguing with basics like availability of clean water, food, clothing, healthcare. After your basics are covered it's up to you to

If you care about life or death situations, get them a SPOT. Even better: consciously bring them in contact with life or death situations & teach them how to deal with it. Go camping or something. But don't project your fears onto these

Who else thought 'cute, typical for Americans' when reading this? Somehow I have a hard time imagining families around me in Europe using such a service. The fact that there is a market for these kinds of apps is telling about US society an

I have one of those but never used it for securing laptops, for scaring the shit out of wannabe thieves trying to access my expensive stuff in my beaten old clunker of a car however ... cheapest car alarm ever.

I don't get why you are being downvoted. I know game mechanics are hot right now but you are making a valid point. If we're not careful we're going to turn the whole internet in a giant skinner box.

It's not just the devices that are US-centric, it's the whole iTunes experience. I find the selection of Movies & Books available through iTunes Germany to be sub-par insofar that I've bought all of my eBooks in Amazon Kindle format.
