Their location downtown is the exact reason why I haven't yet applied with them. I live in the suburbs where downtown Detroit is a 1hr drive (on a normal day) each way. Something in the north/east suburbs is a much more reasonable

I do similar things, but also as part of getting new people into mountain biking and building new, legal, open-to-bikes trails. It's pretty amazing the diversity of people that I've ended up friends and acquaintances with; people

The Detroit area in general is a pretty fine place to live. Good food, loads of great things to do outdoors (if that's your thing) which varies wildly by season, and it's quite cheap to live. It's very car-centric and owning one is practica

Did you have a self-assembled machine? This is one of the big reasons for all the shielding in big-brand computers: mitigating the potential for weird interference like this.

Any idea which Vanguard this is talking about? Financial services? The university? The furniture company...?

This sounds like most of the time I've spent in London when on holiday/vacation recently. Just go there, wander, eat when hungry, wander more... Go back to the hotel after dark and wake up whenever. There are lots of neat things to be seen.

I make mountain bike trail maps[1] using OSM data, but when generating my first drafts of the final PDF files and distributing them for review I'll include similar trap landmark. [1] Examples: http://mmba.org/library/maps/riverbends/latest

I do mountain bike trail work and mapping, and I like putting very large QR codes on the trail head sign kiosks with a note saying "Scan this QR code with your phone to download a copy of this map.". Year-old example (it's changed slightly

Pushing the play button to make it go, perhaps? As in, using the apps is so easy you just "press Play"?

This looks really interesting to me. One thing that I'm not quite clear on is whether or not backups made using Arq to Glacier can be restored using other software. I'm mildly concerned about what could happen if I need to restore software

Back in 2007 I got quite far through the Google hiring process, up to an on-site interview and being told to expect an offer the Thursday after I returned home. I was ready to move half-way across the country and get started living in the b

This gets even more different when devices contain a digitally controlled potentiometer between the DAC and the amp. I believe Macs do this, with the main system volume control actually stepping down the voltage of the signal being fed to t

I do mountain bike (and thus indirectly hiking) trail development, construction, and maintenance as volunteer work. This has shown me a surprisingly useful place for QR codes: on trailhead map boards. The code just links to a (well optimize

I'm glad to see that article gets it right with "The so-called “mascot of paedophilia” has become an internet meme and shorthand for 'Stop being creepy about kids.'" and not something inflammatory about it being a badge for pedophiles or so

That's pretty typical for Apple stuff, though. Although, if I remember right, you can set Apple stuff up as just bridged. I also find it interesting that there's now an iOS app for setting up their APs. That fixes a big gap for some people.
