It's one of the shortcomings that I've come to loathe in nginx's declarative configuration language (and also other software products - Apache httpd is just as guilty). Everything just looks so innocent - but the devil is oft

The problem highlighted here causes one of the few gripes I have with PostgreSQL, and its logging capabilities in particular: It seems to only support logging time in one single format, which does contain a timezone identifier - but using t

TLS in enterprise settings is commonly intercepted by TLS/HTTPS proxies that create trusted (by the OS's local trust store) certificates for proxied peers on the fly. Banks often do this - the one I work for, for instance.

The notion of Open Distro for ES being "a fork" is, in my opinion and as of last I checked, overblown. Yes, they bundle a bunch of freely licensed stuff to make up for features that Elastic themselves have paywalled off (or sealed

What a beautiful story! I've read a similarly impressive account, where a GNU/Linux system was revived in comparably wizard-like manner, with Kernel hacker Al Viro involved: https://yarchive.net/comp/linux

The solution to this problem is either dead simple, or impossible (depending on your specific field of work, I guess): You do not buy or deploy hardware that doesn't have mainline support at the time of your specific Debian release

I always found the "C" in CentOS, the "Community Enterprise OS"... awkward. I admit I haven't been following the project very closely over the years, but true community projects look different. Look at Debian, for e

You can to that on Linux today quite easily. All one has to do is booting the kernel with an appropriate "isolcpus"-parameter on its cmdline, and then "manually" scheduling processes onto the isolated cores/CPUs.

No, Debian releases do not "break just as often". If you really couldn't got from release n to n+1 via apt(-get|itude) due to new packages migrating into testing, this would be a release-critical bug, and have to be corrected
