I set a book-a-week goal for myself this year and hit the reading pretty hard up until June-ish. I was able to get though about ~2 books a week reading ~3 hours a day (mostly fiction). I basically afforded myself no free time on the weekday

"Evicted" is one of the most crushing books I've read. Desmond does a good job of showing how the feedback loop of poverty works.

I don't even care about other people's beer ratings. I just use RateBeer/BeerAdvocate to lookup ABV and caloric information.

I almost feel that math ought to be learned through physics. At least, I remember my physics instructor explaining math concepts in a mich more terse and understandable way than my math professors.

Hey, they still do. And it's 'audiophile.' DSD is 1-bit, but with a very high sampling rate (2.8224 MHz). Though, as far as I know there isn't actually any quality boost vs PCM.

I bought 4 BTC on Mt.Gox when they were ~$25 each. Naturally, after I bought it crashed to the ~$1 territory. Thought to myself "Figures..." and decided might as well hold. Cut to a year (or two?) later and the prices hit the ~$30

Tastebuds.fm did match based on music similarities, last time I checked. Although it was a bit shallow as it only matched based on number of artists shared. I think better matching would also take diversity of tastes into account and how mu

That's cool, but isn't there an inherent ageism in the industry that would prevent someone of that vintage from getting a job? Especially without a broad resume.. I'm all for the idea of older folk getting tech jobs (I'd

Good book. My only problem was that I felt the breadth of the information minimized the depth. Seemed like each page could be its own book.

In my own testing the only thing that stands out in null testing is artifact noise and stuff that's lost in the higher frequencies, i.e. cymbals. The more compressed you go, the more artifact noise introduced and high frequencies lost.

I think your second point is right on. These are beautified websites that contain really unobtrusive ads, the "apps" just being a bookmark pinned to the start screen. I'd rather have that then a cluttered website in a web-browser with obtru

Just a little something that irked me: Guitar however is a weird instrument that doesn't really work with notation, so guitarists have an alternative notation called "tablature". This is incorrect. Guitar works perfectly fine with standar
