So you should be in favor of dropping capital gains to 0% then for everyone, right? Probably income tax too for that matter, because that discourages people from working, and unemployment is the last thing we want to have.

Doctors, lawyers, and other paycheck people making $250k pay around the 35% rate. They get hit hard. Meanwhile, professional investors earning the same amount pay the capital gains rate of 15%, which is less than a paycheck family earning $

I don't advocate having a detailed decriminalization scheme, but an overview or outline would be nice. To that end, I think identifying clear steps, as opposed to a strictly ideological argument, is a good way to convince the overwhelming m

For instance, I don't think that continuing the War on Drugs is practical. But I recognize that ending it is a gradual process, not an overnight one. It's entirely impractical in many regards (economic, social, political) to just stop the W

This is kind of my point. I rolled my eyes when the author complained about "Laws... regulating child labor." You said, "child labor laws," which I would argue has a significantly different meaning than the authors phrase. But I'm comfortab

The author complains about Medicare, Social Security, student loans, and the War on Drugs. Whether or not you agree with those programs, do you think it's practical to just stop them? While I agree with many libertarian sentiments, I rarely

Right, it's legally "child labor." But would you use that phrase in normal conversation as though it doesn't have an uncomfortable, negative connotation?

Well, first of all, you're using the phrase "youth employment," which I think is reasonable and fairly normal. The author used the phrase "child labor," which I rolled my eyes at because the author is seemingly oblivious to the negative con

Agreed. I read "Laws dictating the minimum wage and regulating child labor play a significant role in preventing young people from finding jobs" and rolled my eyes a little.

I thought Jonathan Turley had a very insightful post on the topic: http://jonathanturley.org/2010/01/21/supreme-court-rules-5-4... tl;dr: "In the end, I have to favor more speech than less in such conflicts. While I would have written a c

Our current wars are actually heavily funded through emergency spending bills, which are off-budget and not included in deficit calculations. Edit: Also, the 2009 deficit of $1.2 trillion was announced on Jan 7, 2009, two weeks before Obama

MTA could add value to NYC subway by: * Adding a compass/direction indicator directly out of the subway exit. Frequently, I get out of the subway and my sense of direction is off and street signs aren't much help. * Make them safer to ride

Do you believe that a $675k judgement is reasonable for sharing 30 songs? I'm genuinely curious about the math behind this line of reasoning.

The active approach would definitely require some tact, but definitely seems like it would be more informative. Plus, you're right about the added benefit of understanding what management considers to be an experienced developer.
