by default windows 10 will show you 'suggested' apps in your start menu programs list. This can be disabled in the settings (just open settings and search for suggestions)

I love my 2013 macbook air, but when it comes time to upgrade if I can't even do something as simple as plug in my headphones without a dongle there's no way I'm considering a macbook.

My nexus 7 became utterly unusable over time, even after a complete factory reset. The only way I was able to make it remotely usable was to install an old version of cyanogen mod and install only bare minimum apps.

I don't think they're saying it's a bad idea in general, the issue here seems mostly related to the shadow dom making it difficult/complicated for people to theme atom/re-use components etc... I'm not a web dev

With chrome you have more control over the start page, in that you can change it from the default one to a totally different one, but when comparing opera's speed dial to chrome's default start page Opera's is definitely far
