I would say that cost is the lowest of those concerns for something I need to do my job everyday, and a Librem with MBP-level specs would be worth more to me than a MacBook Pro.

Fair enough about wanting at least one USB-A port, but I can't wait to upgrade from my 2013 MBPr to something that charges over USB-C. MagSafe is nice, but the magnetic breakaway USB-C cables look fine too, and it'd be much nicer

Librem 13 would without a doubt be my next laptop if it had a >=Retina screen, USB-C†, and ideally a form factor as close to the current-gen MBP as possible. I think they have a real opportunity to win over the group that doesn't li

Has there ever been a serious community effort to relicense ZFS? Intuitively, that feels like it would have been a much more worthwhile effort from the start than trying to recreate it from scratch in the form of btrfs. Is that a reasonable

TypeScript itself doesn't really add new language features; it just tracks the ECMAScript spec and considers proposed features for implementation after they hit stage 3. The enhancements coming out in new TypeScript releases are largel

Yeah, that part is more OS X's fault, but either way it makes Firefox unusable for me. It seems like it may be related to Firefox's video CPU spiking issue.

Same, I had it as my default browser for a few weeks and it was a huge improvement, but ultimately I had to switch back to Chrome. No default zoom or pinch-to-zoom were my biggest pain points, then performance (mostly comparable with Chrome

My thoughts exactly. I personally have nothing against systemd and haven't been directly affected since I rarely need to touch init scripts, but I still appreciate Devuan and loosely follow its progress for this reason. (Kind of like R

Ah okay, interesting. Is it because wasm doesn't yet add any new functionality over asm.js that using asm.js as an intermediary step isn't inherently worse? In that case, it sounds like the LLVM backend will only yield clear user-

The plan for emscripten is actually to replace its own wasm compiler with LLVM, and possibly drop its asm.js compiler in favor of running wasm2asm on LLVM's wasm output: https://github.com/kripken/emscripten/i

It would be hypocritical if I were to hide that I eat meat and admonish others for doing so, but neither of those are the case. I care, but I also care about the substantial harm being done to humans by the past 50 years of low-fat diet cra

I don't buy the argument/implication that it's somehow hypocritical to oppose something while actively benefiting from it, as long as one is upfront about that fact. For example, say that we have genuinely useful medical info

Interesting point. I'd never heard of Rus or HQ, and was only loosely familiar with Vine, but as someone who watches Jeopardy daily I'm interested enough that I'll at least test HQ out because of this.

Yep, apparently. (Technically not macOS, but OS X, since I haven't upgraded from El Capitan just yet.) I'd never had an issue with frequent kernel panics before, so I'm not sure what could be up with videos in Firefox.

I've been using FF57 on OS X since its release, and it's been great. Two issues have proven particularly difficult to get used to, however, and I'm surprised they aren't talked about more: 1. Video performance. Even some

I agree that RansomPKP itself isn't that big a real-world concern (which was part of my point), but it did motivate the first wide discussions that I'd seen questioning whether HPKP should exist. The linked Qualys blog post /
