What a coincidence, it's on sale on Steam. I wonder if GOG version will work better on Linux?

Does this increase potential attack surface and make them more vulnerable to remote attacks? I wonder if anyone is pentesting electric scooters. It would be useful to have magic button to remotely reduce speed of a reckless scooter driver.

"All your downloads will be blocked until you verify your identity using Google account.". But on a serious note, popup covering top part of the page does not make one productive.

Good, but we need more alternative search engines, even very niche ones.

Yes, this. Of course, there are no alternatives. EU could probably promote some instance of Mastodon as mandatory.

How about actually installing Linux desktop, and not running outdated and insecure layer of Android under it? PostmarketOS probably would be best choice. Are there any other alternatives?

Biggest issue will be to keep government and public services on the non-corporate web, as they probably jump ship for "security" reasons.

Great, in a few years Youtube will be able to generate new videos with some sort of LLM for video equivalent and stop paying creators. And include as much sponsorships and ads as possible too.

Worst part is that chatbots are usually sold with intention to replace humans, so there's not much hope for getting help from a real person, especially if business is at the state where owner kicked all developers and support out to cu

Oh How the Mighty Have Fallen. Any sensible user will use incognito/private mode, when "searching for birthday presents".

Yes, that's the main problem, that captchas are "invisible" to users logged into Google account. Not to mention some smart developers who are putting recaptchas on government websites, even when you authenticate in with your

One more thing, some said that not letting DRM being added as standard led to Widevine being controlled by single entity. Does having standard might help prevent a lock-in?

Why are we letting Google get away with such nonsense? First(?) was the toast component, then removal of alerts, manifest v3, FLOC, now this. Sure, corporations are going to corporate away, so what are the options for us, users, and future

And that's why we need a diverse ecosystem of search engines. As indexing whole internet is pretty much impossible, maybe several startups could take a slice of it? Some overlap would be useful too.

How about adding a fair rule to standard, that attester cannot attest their own products? I wonder how long would it take for Microsoft or Apple to attest google.com as trustworthy website?

Probably not the most optimal solution, but how about spinning up a small "demo" server without captcha, that is reset as often as possible?

Worst part is when you start questioning, how LLM came up with an answer, and it just adds your suggestion to its answer.

I have stumbled upon several "open" APIs that had such "security measures" implemented, thus making them rather unusable. It would be a useful advice of what not to do, for anyone building public facing APIs.

What about CORS and CSP headers? Should public/open APIs use them and prevent building client side only apps?

Maybe it's time to add some decent looking CSS defaults to browser, but only for websites without CSS includes. Page width, better fonts, maybe even mobile specific improvements could be added. Of course, I understand that would introd
