I grew up in the Berkshires and worked at Crane (making paper for the currency of several countries). Strangely, I've never heard of BerkShares.

In an article about prejudging people by age, we have comments prejudging people by gender and hair color. My wife (blonde) frequently gets talked down to by people who make assumptions about her intelligence.

I've tested myself for the past 10 years and it seems as though I get sick (cold/flu-like) more frequently when we lose an hour. It's anecdata and small sample size and other possible confounding variables, but I think there

I can't tell you how many times I tried (unsuccessfully) to replicate a procedure using the methods section in a research article. Then I contact the author and they send me a protocol that is a 'distant cousin' to what I rea

Has Dylan himself commented on the award? He's unpredictable (and irascible) enough to make me want to hear what he thinks about all of this.

I hate to do this since someone on another thread recently admonished HN commenters as being like crabs that pull other crabs back down into the pot, but I think that this paper is largely PR fluff and worthy of criticism. That being said

If you're familiar w/ Martin's previous business dealings, you would know that his business model had nothing to do with research. What he has done (twice) is find a niche drug whose supply could be constrained (thiola @ Retr

Soap is a remarkably good antibacterial as well. Im on mobile but will try to look up refs for this later. I used to work in this area and a colleague was an expert on antibacterial properties of detergents.

We have lived with (and sometimes even liked) curated ads in paper publications for decades. In the 1970s, my grandfather mailed his local newspaper and asked them to remove the ads when they made his copy of the paper. "I never re
