I think it's more that the puzzles should avoid having a "correct solution" in the form of a known algorithm. If the puzzle can basically only be solved by remembering a specific algorithm, and any other algorithm (or attemp

This is exactly my thoughts on it. Granted I was never strong in math, and that's partly on me, but the early days (and even most mid days) of AoC are usually all about algorithms design and efficiency, but then sometimes you get thes

Apologies, I updated my post. It was Day 13 where this happened. Not sure why I stopped at Day 19, tbh.

I'm quite surprised, I spent hours on multiple different solution and every single one was brutally slow.

I really enjoyed the early part of this last year, but I got to Day 19 and suddenly it became "if you memorized some mathematical concepts and an obscure algorithm and also recognize that this exact algorithm is the only efficient solu

Yeah it's the website equivalent of your uncle that starts the conversation with a reasonable sounding topic to lure you in before unleashing all his beliefs about the government on you.

There is a button when you scroll down that says "If you're a boomer, you should click here". I feel like that's enough on its own to completely undermine any credibility and gravitas a site might have. I can't im

As a fun overview of the problem we're discussing, here's a rough list of the various mentioned languages in this comment section: - YAML - JSON - JSONC - XML - TOML - INI - CSV - NestedText - Starlark - Pyth

Well it's not exact, it's the middle english spelling, but the "Doomsday Book"[1], aka "Domesday Book" comes from 1086, so that might predate Id by a bit. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

As someone who has played for years, this is a struggle for me too. My group actually put a ban on D&D and PF as systems, and we cycle through 3-4 completely new and unique systems per year trying out everything that's out there.

In the same vein in anime: Dr. Stone is really damn good as well! Goes deep into inventing chemistry and tech from scratch. My wife is a chemist and couldn't find anything inaccurate about it!

Evolution works thanks to natural pressures -- in this case, a mutation in the gene gives an elephant no tusks, and thanks to this they are not killed by poachers. That elephant is lucky enough to survive to pass on its DNA. The recessive

I just bought a house, and put 10% down on the house. What I learned: - PMI is really not as expensive as you might think. I pay ~$150/mo extra and all told my mortgage is just over $2k/mo - PMI rate depends on a LOT of factors,
