I'll be honest I'm not entirely sure what this article is meant for? I was almost expecting it to end with Nick's resume to let people reach out to hire him, but the impression I got from the article was that he's currently employed remotely. The difficulties he describes are basically just getting ghosted by interviewers, and having to ask/beg for more responsibility to his higher ups. I'm sure things are more difficult for him overall with his lack of sight, but the things described in this article are...exactly the same experiences I've had with interviews and bosses, and I don't have the same problem as him (I am actually physically disabled, just not in a way that so drastically impacts my life).
The article never tries to get Nick hired, it never really goes into any depth in his challenges, never talks about HOW he's a developer without sight (I would LOVE to hear about that, sounds fascinating!) It just rambles on a bit in a feel-good "isn't he so brave" tangent that I feel like does him a disservice -- the dude's just trying to live like the rest of us and seems to be doing a decent job of it from what little I was able to gather from the article.
Bravo to you Nick, keep up the good work, and don't let anyone take advantage of your condition in either a good OR bad way. The one time I did any kind of interview it focused VERY heavily on my condition despite having nothing to do with the topic, and I regretted letting anyone interview me in the first place and probably won't again. Nick may be different than me in this respect, but if someone published this article about me, I would be rather insulted by it. If he isn't, then more power to him.
EDIT for opportunity:
If there are any blind devs on HN who happen to screen-read this comment, I would LOVE to hear about how your dev setup works! I saw a talk at Strange Loop one year about voice-based development that was AWESOME[1] and ever since then I have been interested in how other people do their work in non-standard ways. Email in my profile if you want to share, or if there are blogposts that works too!
