No, in the 70s Nixon had just removed the gold standard, the real reason for the salary inflation WAS to convince people that the newly invented petrodollar had value by increasing the interest rate AND the salary to compete with the gold p

That's a simplification, they didn't make a fortune from the inflation on things being higher than the interest rate, they made it from salary increases. I looked at my SBAB account and indeed I have 0.50% on that now. So maybe we

I'm doing .ttf OpenGL with custom row break for my MMO: The trick is to take as much advantage of this command-line and remove all other GUI. I'm only going to support ASCII which helps a great deal. Chat bubble / command-lin

The reason I'm preaching without proof is that I have run a service with 350.000 customers (1100 concurrent) that proved all this. I don't need to prove anything to myself, when I know it is true because I witnessed it. You have s

Because I have not written my own memory model, why are you refuting them when you cannot explain why they are wrong? What I mean with C++ not being able to do atomic parallelism on OO is that you need a VM with GC to do that. The best way

SSH is not a frontend protocol, but I use that for the backend. IRC is replacable with HTTP. It's a 3D MMO: http://talk.binarytask.com/task?id=5959519327505901449

The smallest PaaS you have ever seen is one order of magnitude larger than mine: https://github.com/tinspin/rupy And I bet you the same goes for performance, mine can share data between cores atomically.

I would say .html, .css and .js and the browser are becoming over-engineered. HTTP and SMTP are fine however. I have stopped coding .html and only use HTTP now from a native OpenGL client written in C.

All problems are solved by running comet-stream on a shared parallel capable app server. That can do peak many-to-many so whatever usercase you need it will support it. Never learn things that aren't final.

The user/user is a "node type" to "node type" thing: it can be user/item f.ex. The marc/marcus is related to those so for user/item it could be marc/sword f.ex. The reason it's that way is t

Why, it describes what the question is... meta (what type of storage) user/user is self-explanatory and marc/marcus is also simple... If you consider what this replaces it will feel less nauseating maybe? If you remove marcus: ht

The real problem is that you cannot set the UA with js now in 2022 and that's like 6 years after they decided you should be able to. Basically you obviously want to remove the UA string as it's just wasting bandwidth.

The context switches in NIO is between fewer threads, you just need one per core. Memory contention is also playing into this. The benchmark they made is asking the question in a way that it leans into the answer they need, just like 99% of

I still think a forced comment on downvote is the best improvement one could make to the hn comment system. Same for reddit. Using mail is interesting in the long term as I see SMTP replacing all IM protocols.

Agreed it's simpler, but using NIO with one OS thread per core also has it's benefits. The context switch (how ever small) will cause latency when this solution is at saturation. I think they should write four tests: fiber, NIO an

I'm trying real hard... but until the KWh is >$1 on average I'll keep the Intel + 1030 going. That said I keep all my software compatible and I'm 100% sure I will be switching in the next 10 years.
