Ok, but what is the point of a non-VR client? VR does not blend well with non VR unless the headset is the camera! Last time I checked both of those where 1st person not 3rd?

Because, if you haven't noticed, we are running out of energy? Basic is not performant enough to make games that are interesting. If you could afford a 286/386 you are not really in the majority of the human population.

Tech. optimism is predatory on the generations that follow if they turn out to not happen. And I don't know how many cameras on the back of your iPhone before you realize it still only takes 2D photos? I think you need to understand th

1. Electricity is not an energy source, you need to burn something else to create it. 2. Wind, Solar, Nuclear and Hydro can not be built with electricity at scale, you need coal, oil and gas to melt steel and burn lime stone for concrete. 3

It's easier than ever to copy games. If you cannot create original concepts the real value of a game is zero! And you can only create new things if you control the fundamentals. Good luck with money, it's going to get complicated

If your game is based on technology you dont understand you don't really own it until you can recreate that stack... this means litteraly nobody owns anything if applied to the extreme (OS + language) but if you use an engine that is s

The reality is that the only tech all companies are hiding in plain sight is Skin Mesh Animation and Unity doesn't even implement that in a vertex shader! They use a compute shader which means they have to send all meshes every frame.

None of those are source available with affordable commercial license. Minecraft is owned by Microsoft and has issues (does not run on ARM well and the Java/Bedrock are incompatible) Roblox is extortion and ugly. VR Chat is only VR. Ne

True, but the energy consumption is key: Raspberry 4 draws 1/3 of a C64 at 1000x perf, at 2Gflops/W not even the M1 (at 2.5Gflops/w) chip is hurting that stat with 5nm vs. 28nm for the Raspberry. Tools are peaking and linux w

The whole thing reads like a tragic waste to me. Too bad you couldn't code assembly on a C64/Amiga out of the box properly either. Now with the Raspberry 4 we finally after 40 years of corporate shenanigans have something where ki

Programming is the final art. The only reason it's classified as "infrastructure" is that programmers are letting themselves be exploited. Open-source is the key, "source available" is the path. Am I the ony one tha

The best way to connect old composite/s-video devices to a modern screen is through the GV-USB2 japaneese capture dongle. Very low latency so perfect for gaming. Resolution is too low for anything else really. Unfortunately it only has

I use composite on my A1200 because RGB -> anything means trouble with signals and latency. My GV-USB2 capture dongle has zero latency and I only play games.

Everything can do anything, you need to look at what the majority did. And not even 0.0000001% of NES/Famicom owners had a keyboard and a disk drive and out of those probably 0% did any coding since Nintendo to this day does not allow

Sure, but the RGB standard did not survive so the Amigas are for all intents and purposes limited by composite out of the box today. Again everything can do anything.

To me the NES is the precursor of Apple and Google with closed systems that preys on the discovery of the home computer and creates waste (cartridges) when software can be written to re-writeable media (cassettes, floppies and network). C64

I use sandboxes instead of containers. If you can stick to using Java the JVM can hot-deploy code in real-time without any downtime. It leaks memory but if your systems are minimalist you don't need anything else than one JVM process p

Nope, 1030 has 37 Gflops/W... G13 786/20W = 40... and that's 14nm vs 5nm... still I'm pretty sure there are things the 1030 can do that the A13 will struggle with. Game Over!

And that's exactly my point: they can't. Power does not solve contention and latency! It's over, permanently... (or atleast until some photon/quantum alternative, which honestly we don't have the energy to imagine,
