Quantity is not a valuable metric. You need to look at perf./watt and complexity of use instead. Something like this can replace 90% of databases: http://root.rupy.se When the whole database is 2000 lines of code you don&#x

With NIO there is no OS overhead like context switches because you only need one thread per core as long as everything is async. Erlang is single threaded unless you copy memory between threads. The only step left for Java to implement (aft

I use OS threads + non-blocking IO with concurrent package for shared data in Java. The performance is incredible. If I wanted to get a little more performance per watt I would probably rewrite it in C with arrays of atomic variables. But y

If you want to push energy efficiency the Raspberry 2 (old ARM v7 version) is the best device at 1W idle / 2W full load, it saturates the SD card. One step up is Raspberry 4 for heavier workloads/networking at 3W idle / 6W fu

The key is to unhinge the gameplay thread from the render/physics threads. This in practice means you have to use Array of 64 byte Structure for your shared data. Lua is not going to change that. You can hot-deploy C with a .so/.d

Explicit schema is the most important feature to drop. You cannot have a live service that is interrupted by database modifications. My solution is to use JSON. But the most important feature to add is HTTP as transport and async-to-async (

The real problem is OS:es that write to disk for no good reason. Windows 10 writes 100KB/s constantly. That should be illegal.

I'm not an expert but the little experience I have is that you need to stop helping them. That's how they learn to take responsibility and listen to what they want to do and trust that intuition. You cannot share ownership, you ne

In my CMS: http://github.com/tinspin/sprout I use node based structure on top of a relational db: MySQL, Postgres or Oracle. So to define a admin you just add a GROUP_NAME node called "ADMIN" to a user, prett

If you need admin tools, you need authority. The best way to design products is if they are not centralized or distributed but instead decentralized. This is incredibly hard to do, and nearly impossible to scale, but we need to go there. In

I know what 10W feels like because the Jetson Nano draws that, and Raspberry 4 is 7W with GPU+4 cores saturated. You will need a heatsink on the Visionfive if the GPU does what I hope it does. The Raspberry 4 GPU is only 1W vs. 5W on the Je
