Yeah I had an awful experience working with them - which is confusing to consumers I’m sure when the text chat is literally addressed to Apple through iMessage and GS just takes over from that.

+1 to the whole fraud issue - I had a fraudulent transaction from the apple store, my card but not my account, and they at first refused to believe that the virtual card number could be stolen, which it can as it’s just a credit card number

This conspiracy always comes up - don't you think that they test the output of the model revisions on probably 1000s of downstream tasks at this point? Bad responses are hard to reason about, could be prompting, could be a model revisi

It's about what the I though the H100 was, that's 700W actually. But even at say, 400W, that's 40MW of power. I guess some datacenters are built in the 40-100MW range from some quick googling, but I really doubt they actually

To be honest, this seems likely to have happened _somewhere_ in the universe at least a few times. Maybe we are all secretly just an overgrown virus of self spreading amino acids that's been propagating through space and time slowly ov

The scale they are quoting at 100,000 chip clusters and 65 exaflops seems impossible. At 800W per chip, that's 80MW of power! Unless they literally built an entire DC of these things, nobody is training anything on the entire cluster a

In my experience you’d need several weapons grade DC nodes (unless you are fine-tuning with LoRa, totally different game then!)

Errr 20M is a few hours to train 10K iters on 8x V100s for what I’ve been doing. 300M is in the range of 4-8 nodes of that scale.

IDK what exactly they mean by library, but maybe different types of sequencing take different times? Could still be on device.

This is wildly cool, I want one. No clue what for, but 1k sequencing! Interestingly their other products use nvidia gpus - up to 4 A series! Could be small but they use a GV100 in a smaller machine soo… maybe A100s! Did they make an ASIC fo

This seems like a mildly snarky response, but really - some lawyer signed this, knowing they were submitting a DMCA for showing a website in a browser. It should be dealt with extremely harshly.

The tower of abstractions we’ve built is indeed the stuff of nightmare fuel - we are just starting to see the results of what we’ve wrought! The articles example is great, another good one is all of the spectre and meltdown CPU arch bugs -

Issuing a false DMCA should absolutely be lethal to whatever lawyers career signed it. It’s just perjury/fraud/bullshit and the system could be adapted to fix existing issues just by enforcing some of the legal professions typical

I've been really curious about these, but my experience with an MI60 and partially my 6900XT has not endeared me towards using AMD cards - the MI60 refuses to init in linux, due to some PSP firmware issue, and the 6900xt is missing pre

Fair enough - I wouldn't recommend going with a 5K GPU for home use either. 3090s or 4090s! I have 2 4090s personally, which is perfect for pretty serious 7B fine-tuning and inference, and doing development work on smaller stuff before

I would hope vast.ai would be able to detect MIG at least. It could also be a low power cap - I had a Dell C4140 for a bit with 220V power supplies and 120V power, locking the entire thing to ~50% of the max power cap per GPU basically.

Ebay 3090 or new @ 1599$ 4090 (founders edition, gigabyte windforce v2), are the best price/performance/ease of use in my opinion. AMD is too funky for most still. I have an Mi60 that won’t load drivers due to some PSP (platform s
