GRPC? Not the same, but allows you to specify the API in a static file and generate native language clients among many other things.

I'm glad to see more geocoding offerings, but if you need more than a few thousand addresses, you'll find no offering will. Running your own geocoding really shouldn't be that scary of thing to do. The biggest pain in running

In college my group used topo maps and a laser cutter to construct a map of Colorado. The burned edges had a really nice effect http://www.instructables.com/id/TwitMap-Topographical-Colora...

It's a tricky problem. I could see enterprise solutions for private GPS networks that have signed messages similar to an asymmetric JWT signature. That way the message can be passed around and the client can assert if the message has b

Palantir is building a 9 story office across the street from Google too. I was surprised to not see either of them. Uber has one too, but it's only a couple of teams there.

It mentions protecting against jamming, but I hope they also explicitly make efforts against spoofing. I think that's the bigger security concern when your receiver thinks it has the right position, but an attacker is providing the sig

I'm surprised they didn't make any mention of GPS spoofing, that's much scarier to me than jamming and is becoming easier and cheaper every year.

I wanted to write a technical article and medium seemed like a good place to publish it. The analytics were simple and didn't require additional set up and I was hoping to reach a different audience from publishing on medium. Overall I

I hadn't heard of this project before, but this sounds pretty awesome. I wonder what the fidelity is and if it could be used to fill in the height tag missing from lots of OSM buildings.

I can speak for how Bing Maps was storing their data before being bought by Uber. They had a single massive bespoke compute site for batch processing. I want to say it was 64k cores and multiple PBs. There was a flood in Colorado one summer

As an OSM data consumer I hope this gets more people adding nodes, particularly house numbers for geocoding.

Raycasting is a pretty expensive operation since you have to check every edge of the polygon. Honestly I'm guessing they implemented the brute force method and called it good enough. Otherwise they would have posted comparisons as to w

Yep, I do not get that. Indexing by city first or another single dimensional key (quadkey/geohash) and having an rtree of your geometries inside of that is simple enough. Maybe if they're dealing w/ < 100 geometries per ci
