No new information (and personally I'd prefer not to see this on Hacker News) but...this is a really remarkable article. It reads like a spy thriller in a way none of the short form reporting has. It also introduces a new protagonist t

I've always thought this was an interesting dynamic too. The Boston Globe recently had a front page article about who is buying the Boston Globe: http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2013/06/27/least-

I'd normally agree with your rules for an apology (eg. after a breach) but in this case I think their aggressive tone creates a Streisand effect. I for one had never heard of this guy. He certainly seems to be gaining some fans among c

There's a large subset of that intersection that puts a bizarre halo effect around the NSA (everything they do is good) and the opposite for the IRS. So I do think this will wake them up.

7 days is a fine maximum, but not necessarily a target. A malicious 3rd party script should be removed in an hour. Are there any independent groups that rate a firm's response to an exploit? Other than HN comments and (rare) legal recourse,

This seems like such an obvious thing for Facebook to do - any guesses as to why they haven't?

If anyone from the site reading this, didn't work on my nexus galaxy. A dumb share popover took up the whole screen and didn't scroll away.

Implicit in all the discussion about his site is whether it could signify a major industry shift - that's what I thought the question was getting at. I'd have preferred him to take a position: "I think I have a better way for the industry t

I thought it was a good question, and probably the only part of the article that's relevant to Hacker News. (FWIW I think it does matter and didn't like his answer)

This is really fantastic behavior, but content - the actual list items they show - is much more important for user experience. Why should "Amazon Cloud Drive" be a "Department"? In the wild, I suspect I would quickly glance at the top level

Those two aren't exclusive - does your father know what file a given email is stored in? (Good for him if so :) I think you need to give examples of important content which, at the same time , your father stores with files and your daughte

I don't agree with Gabe's conclusion that "post-touch, and we’ll be stable for a really long time" As you said: "where I'm looking", "where I'm gesturing", and "where I'm thinking" are all possible - but totally different. I think if post-t

I'd rather focus on ideas than personalities. What about "ask me anything about X", where X is a software package/device/publication/etc.

> the brain has fewer components influencing development What do you mean by that? I'd argue the opposite. In a sense, we already have discovered genes for high height with Marfan Syndrome. I think IQ is orders of magnitude more complex

Yes - (1) and (4) are extremely unlikely, though (2) and (3) are certainly plausible :) More specifically, this study may publish some marginal results about genetics of extreme IQ, but any single effect will likely be so small that nothing
