Am I right in my reading that OP went more than 2 years into a startup without a single paying customer? That seems a little absurd.

hey, I get that you've probably had negative experiences in the past with people like this, but it's possible to enjoy learning without being an asshole about it. There's really no need for this kind of negativity.

Here's the response: Universities are mostly unimportant in terms of what they offer: class sizes, education, curriculum, etc... All mostly bs that doesn't matter. The real role of universities is to gather together smart people a

yes, but what principles justify the importance placed on low resource languages?

I'm not entirely sure why low resource languages are seen as such a high priority for AI research. It seems that by definition there's little payoff to solving translation for them.

I really hate the discourse around tech interviews. Every blog post is exactly the same: that leetcode isn't an indicator of real skill, that the whole landscape is terrible, and everything is completely awful and no one knows how to h

I did around 200 leetcode problems preparing for this summers internship search. About half my interview problems were problems that I'd seen before.

any article based on a single study, especially when related to psychology or the social sciences, is more likely than not to be untrue. Worth taking this with study with a massive grain of salt. Replication crisis is real and most severe i

yes, but also more money changes hands in longer bookings, so maybe num bookings is the unintuitive metric. Def worth pointing out that both are biased in one way or the other though.

Good data is worth it's weight in gold. I've heard stories of startups paying journalists 40/hr to write samples for nlp datasets. Imo this is not a good place to cut costs

Do we really though? Does an international society really exist? Personally, I don't feel much of an obligation to people a hundred miles away, much less people on the other side of the Earth, in a whole different country

It's geopolitically interesting that China, a Russian ally, is choosing to donate to a Ukrainian cause. It sends a subtle message of china's stance on the war.

I go to washu - which does decently well on the rankings. There's a tradition every fall for the incoming freshman class to read a selected book, and my year they chose Cathy oNiel's weapons of math destruction, which goes over in

Leetcode starts with an examination of the structure of the problem - the data structures present, the best possible time complexity. Knowing both allows a ton of narrowing down of the method that should be used.
