Hopefully someday we can re-add Living Computers in Seattle, WA USA to the list. https://www.livingcomputers.org Paul Allen's death, and then the COVID pandemic, effectively put the museum in stasis. At least two of Allen&#

That's kinda why I like living in the suburbs now. My commute into the city is ~30 by transit. But I have a garage to tinker in (recently added a 3d printer to the workbench), and I store my car there for driving beyond the reach of th

Agree; I'd actually theorize that the parent's comment has cause and effect backwards - when church is something you're compelled to attend, you overcome the heavy lift of having to load the family up into the car, drive, fin

I tried to do something similar recently with my 2015 12" MacBook, but the hardware support just isn't there. (I've tried both the latest Ubuntu and Fedora; both have issues with the keyboard and trackpad not being usable aft

I doubt the recruiter would have known anything different. A lot of these sudden RTO initiatives appear to be top-down things, not something recruiters would have known about a year in advance.

I’ve seen a few twists on that idea, such as this one: https://www.printables.com/model/416934-framework-as-a-serve...

Didn’t applications used to be able to show their titles in the taskbar under W11 if you change the taskbar settings? Did that go away, or am I imagining that ability?

I don't drive a Tesla, and clearly don't have their insurance, but have had my rates affected by driving between 12a and 4a. My insurer (not a cut-rate one) did give me a discount for using, for 90 days, one of their OBDII dongles

Do you have a citation for the debunking? The WA state legislature is trying to push through a bunch of unfunded mandates of dubious effectiveness on airports based on this study.

The idea behind dropping a Synology off would be that you could sync to it remotely, so you don’t have to be lazy about refreshing it. Though online backups have their own risks (ransomware).

Correct. If I talk to service A and I see an address that’s in the same /64 as service B, it’s unlikely there’s a firewall between the two. Two different /56 or /48? Probably a different site.

One of those stores was only accessible by badged Amazon employees, too. It was basically just a grab and go cafeteria for them.

I had the latter kind growing up. Moved away, and went to a dentist with a fancy name and close to my office. Huge mistake. I’ve lost track of how many they drilled. My mouth hasn’t been the same since. I have a new dentist now who’s much l

If I have a business and I use a company like sendgrid, I have credentials to use that service. If some employee has access to that account (such as to send newsletters), and that employee’s credentials were lost or stolen, that doesn’t see

It boils down to your dentist, too. Some will leap to drilling and filling every little speck they can find (and charge you for it), while others will monitor them and see if they progress. Having been to both types, I’d say I strongly pref

Yeah, my Ryzen 3700x is a 3.5 year old CPU now. I might try to move to an AM5 build later this year, but it’s still a very decent PC.

I have no relation to the company, just found these devices to be pretty slick and reasonably priced (for what you get) for the average tinkering engineer.

I just got an invoice from a company that came out yesterday and resealed all of the gaps/protrusions/etc on my roof. $475 plus tax. Little high considering the effort, but it's a tall townhome, so no way in hell I'm get

It really bugs me about Edge that it's actually a decent browser (well, Chromium under the hood is, but I also like the built-in vertical tabs), but Microsoft keeps going crazy w/ the shenanigans. Example: I typically use Firefox
