Closest you’ll likely get for that closed source operating system is “Install Windows the Arch Way”: https://christitus.com/install-windows-the-arch-linux-way/

Not really. It’s a very complicated, highly sophisticated piece of software written for native iOS. And the market is small. By rewriting it for Android, the only market share they could expect to get would be what they can steal from Garmi

With all due respect, I would hope that anything you could do with ADSB-out data is something that the US military has already tried.

New iPhones are announced yearly, but the average smartphone consumer keeps their device for between 2 and 3 years.[0] iPhones in particular have extended lifecycles; an informal 9to5 Mac poll in 2021 (biased towards enthusiasts) had roughl

If your application can be used to make outbound requests to the internet (and so many apps can be), you can easily make a GET against localhost. There are ways to lock that down, but they aren’t automatic.

Some streaming boxes will do exactly that; both Apple’s and Amazon’s will, and perhaps others. For example, if you search for a movie or TV show on Fire TV or in the Apple TV app (on that box) it’ll show you the title and what services curr

Considering the repo dates back to 2010 (predating Rust by 4+ years), there probably wasn’t a better option that could run on the embedded devices that OpenWRT targets.

I’d rather reach down in the plane and pick something off the floor than do the same in my car. Especially if the plane has a half decent autopilot.

I realize this is an anecdote, not data, but after flying my own plane for 5 years and getting >500 hours of flight time, plus soldering off and on for 30 years with leaded solder, my lead levels were fine at my last physical. I don’t dr

I'm familiar with why they sell it as 940mbps vs gigabit; that doesn't concern me. I also don't buy the explanations of MTU, accurate timing, etc for one big reason: other sites like Speedtest.net and the Cloudflare speed tes

Fast.com frequently tells me speeds that cannot exist. Why yes, I am definitely getting 1.2gbps over this gigabit Ethernet and 940mbps Internet connection.

It’s super easy to setup CUPS to do AirPrint nowadays. I have a small container on my Proxmox box that just runs CUPS and talks to the printer over the network. I know that’s not accessible for the tech un-savvy, but it’s there for those of

My partner and I don’t go often, but when we do we order one main and a slice of cheesecake. Maybe a smaller appetizer if we’re particularly hungry. It’s a ton of food but it’s a good amount for two.

My old Skylake board in a really old Antec case is my NAS, a Lenovo m720q with a dual Intel 10gbe NIC is my router, and an HP EliteDesk mini with a 7th gen Intel chip (i5? Don’t recall) runs various VMs.

How do you access your remote development machine? Is it a graphic connection / can you use an IDE? I love the idea of a powerful remote development machine but I’ve yet to find a tolerable RDP/VNC-type connection, and that leaves

It's not the full mathematics major, but double majoring in both CS and Math at my university was common. And a CS major who wanted a Math minor needed no additional coursework.

I just watched the MLB All-Star game OTA yesterday. We also watched the Jeopardy Masters Tournament a few weeks ago. And we do tend to pick up the local news in small doses just to see what’s up around town. We do stream more than we watch

The T430 is a rugged laptop, but it’s getting pretty far up there in age. For example, I use mine in the shop to read PDFs, update the project’s Trello board, fetch software updates and drop them on SD cards, etc. I used to think Trello kin

Part of me has been wondering if the noises being heard might be an unexpected discovery of a military (Russian, Chinese, US) submarine operating in the general area. Don’t they submerge for long periods of time without comms?
