I guess this makes sense, who is going to attempt to force their taxi driver into something they don’t want to do at the start of the journey? Even knowing I’m in the right legally, I don’t really want to be driven anywhere by someone pisse

With RPN you can just type facts in as you think of them, and figure out how to combine them later. With conventional entry, you have to have the entire equation in mind from the beginning, or backtrack to add brackets. RPN has no use for b

Honestly that's kind of terrifying. I got Covid 2 months ago, and have been trying to start running again to improve my lung capacity. Are you saying I've been making it worse?

I use it fairly regularly for cases where I want to input something sensitive on the command line, and not have that stored in my bash history. For example something like curl -u user:"$(pass SomeSecret)" https://api.w

New Zealand has had the virus under control without pharmaceutical help for 9 months now. Many East Asian countries are doing totally fine, with extremely low case numbers and local quarantines for outbreaks. The difference is pure culture:

I love how you can almost see a lynx in the attacking noise. I'd be interested to know if that's my brain spotting a pattern that isn't there, or if that's genuinely just the mechanism for the disruption.

This about sums it up for me as well. I feel so absurdly lucky that what I love to do also pays well. If programming paid like shit, I don't think I would be able to stop myself going down that road anyway, in the same way someone who

If that's the case then it's not an infinite chain - each successive universe would have lower and lower resolution or a smaller and smaller universe.

You have to make the pretty big assumption that it’s even possible to simulate a universe within the universe. Such an assumption is basically like assuming we could move faster than light, or reverse entropy. It seems unlikely to me.

If major countries started making its use illegal, its value would plummet and so would the incentive to mine. Not saying I hope that happens, just that it’s one route to stopping it.

You're taking the comparison too literally because writing a resume and writing code both involve text. Having a typo on your resume (not a random internet comment) is a strong signal that you can't be bothered do the bare minim

Vim removes mental load while typing. It won’t make you significantly faster, or even really a better programmer in any measurable way. What it does is make the experience of writing text, and especially writing code, far more pleasant. If

If the virus had ebola mortality rates I genuinely think it would have done less damage than covid has. When people are genuinely afraid for their lives they're more likely to follow lockdowns.

I was pretty excited about the game until the Keanu Reeves announcement. Something about having celebrities being a major selling point of video games never seems to work out well.

Xbox Game Pass is like Netflix for games, you pay a small subscription each month and get to essentially rent hundreds of games. Sounds like it might be what you're after.

Let's say you want every 5th element of an array, with zero indexing your code can be very elegant. Your indexes are 5 * 0, 5 * 1, 5 * 2. With 1-indexing you have to do (5 * 0)+1, (5 * 1)+1, (5 * 3)+1 etc.

Watching videos and listening to music is fine, devices usually delay video playback to match the latency so you don't notice any difference. The latency problem really only matters for when you need instant feedback for your actions:
