That's effectively what I do. I have my dev branch, and then I make separate branches for each PR with just the commit in it. Works well enough so long as the commits are independent, but it's still a pain in the ass to manage.

It's funny to see this all go full circle. messenger.com was spun out of facebook.com to try to build a new platform. They promised interoperability with Instagram and WhatsApp accounts, although they never did a good enough job that

Wild to see such fragmentation in such a niche space. It's an aftermarket Linux flash for smartwatches, and there are companion apps for SailfishOS and Ubuntu Touch, which are extremely niche flavors of the already very niche mobile L

I use GitHub because that's where PRs go, but I've never liked their PR model. I much prefer the Phabricator/Gerrit ability to consider each commit independently (that is, have a personal branch 5 commits ahead of HEAD, and

This partially feels like an intentional pendulum swing from Twitter/Facebook cancel culture and other forms of policing. I'm thinking in particular about the rise of platforms like Discord where being opaque to search/archiv

Honest question: has he done anything you think warrants good press? I too quickly grew tired of the constant doomerism in his first term, but this one seems to be unmitigatedly terrible.

I can say that to a certain degree about Hacker News too. Still often good comments here, but certain topics devolve into a bad subreddit quickly. The ethos of the rules hasn't scaled with the site.

Wirecutter was a good premise, but now it and everyone copying it are untrustworthy. It feels like the human version of AI hallucination: saying what they think is convincing without regard for if it's sincere. And because it mimics t

Apple presumes you have a multitouch pointing device. You can three-finger-swipe between spaces. I know there's a keyboard equivalent, but you'd have to look it up.

Years ago, they changed the behavior of the green button to be "fullscreen into a separate space." As someone who never uses spaces, this is never what I want. You can escape it by moving your cursor to the top edge of the screen

How was that distinct from 8? I thought 9 was just 8 running in a VM on X.

I didn't think a window could span two screens - I thought it only appeared on the one that had most of the window.

This feels untrue. Granted I haven't tracked it closely, but the Adwaita design system and the GNOME HIG feel like relatively recent developments.

one of my pet peeves of computing in this millennium has been images that make your screen arbitrarily go dark. i presume this is a defect in how macs display HDR content embedded in an SDR container.

It is interesting to see players other than Google invest in it. Makes me wonder if you might eventually see the OG Flutter team move to a shop like Toyota, the same way the original React team moved to Vercel. It's nice to see open s

Sounds like when Netflix reneged on family accounts. I cancelled my account in protest, but their financials say they made money on the change (and thus all the execs are happy with it).
