Good to know that other companies are supplying 5K displays, but neither is significantly cheaper than the Apple. In fact, Samsung's MSRP is identical to Apple's. So much for being an "idiot" product…

It struck me that they estimate that the number of qualified contributors is 1000, but the number _so far_ is 1500. They're slightly different things (as the post notes, the bigger number includes copy editors), but still…

Your reaction is mine too, but it feels like you're fighting for the sake of fighting. Yes, it's infuriating that they effectively made an iMac, don't let you run your own software on it, but do charge iMac prices for it. Als

The Studio Display is priced as if it's an iMac. It's insane that we've had retina displays for over a decade, and Apple still seems to be more-or-less the only game in town for a 5k 27" display.

I looked into this briefly when they announced that the iMac Pro is the oldest device that still gets the newest software. It's logically two displays crammed together, which apparently makes Linux support difficult. Someone posted on

Part of the problem is that the underlying systems aren't Nix, so you're replacing the easy way with the Nix way. I wouldn't be mad if opening the system preferences and setting my timezone also updated my timezone in Nix. I

Is there any legal JSON that's not legal JavaScript? If not, it's fair to say it's a subset.

I remember being shocked when I realized that Charles Schwab, a bank that manages untold illions of dollars, was ignoring everything after the 8th character in their passwords. This was still true until a few years ago.

`/` is a weird choice of delimiter for JSON. Since JSON is a subset of JS, I would have expected `.` to be the delimiter. That jives with how people think of JSON structures in code. (Python does require bracket syntax for traversing
