Tangential, but I was looking into this yesterday and couldn't find the answer: How does her term work? Seats on the FTC are supposed to last for 7 years. She was nominated in 2021 and her term technically expired a couple months ago.

I asked someone who had done high level work at TikTok what he thought of the CCP conspiracy theories driving the Trump/Biden ban pushes. He said something to the effect of "ByteDance isn't coordinated enough to pull off bei

I appreciate that the tweet actually had context about what happens next: "…continue to seek a path towards purchasing…" "…back to the drawing board…" The article could have used those details. ----- [edit] They've

This is a nice reminder for me to check it out. I've liked Phabricator, and Google's internal variant of Mercurial in the past (and have always despised GitHub's PR=branch model). Sounds like Jujutsu might be right up my all

That's the unfortunate bit about salaries. If you took a 4x per week job, you'd usually get a 20% pay reduction; however, many jobs could be compressed to 4 days without any loss in productivity.

Sailfish licensing is unfortunate. Unless you have one of their handful of (obsolete) blessed phones and pay them money for the privilege, you can't use their stuff. I get that they're effectively a startup spun out of Nokia, and

I still can't believe that everyone alive in the 21st century has been damned to forego a vibrant public domain because some lawyers were afraid Mickey Mouse might fall out of copyright. Free Culture by Larry Lessig was an excellent bo

I was part of a skunkworks project at eBay a decade ago. eBay's OSPO was pretty loose at the time. We made our own eBay org to release our stuff under, with their blessing. They linked to our projects from their site. We've all

It's interesting how uniform the birthday distribution at the end looks. I'd expect more seasonality (e.g. more babies conceived in the cold, dark months).
