There are large organizations at Meta focused on basic research & design (FAIR, Open Compute, PyTorch, etc) and giving back to the community. Not everyone is maximizing revenue.

For the Freestyle Libre 3, you can use it without an account. That does not mean that Abbott is not still sending your readings to the cloud, but at least your name is not attached to it. It takes some work, but you can "liberate"
