Local gov't trades reach and power for proximity and savvy. This manifests as fairly equal amounts of influence from each level of the "hierarchy". I think it's funny that you would use torture as your example, consideri

Again, this is a canard. Local government in some areas have been shown to make bad decisions that trample on explicit and enumerated rights (rather than the arbitrary or vague "rights" that are conjured to impede reform). Speakin

The people we put in place to protect us think they're gonna make it out just fine either way. It doesn't matter who wins, because the real battle the next few years will be about defining the new rules, not playing by the old one

My guess is that there is some amount of overlap between the crypto/WSB crowd and, say, the people who kickstarted (read: were structurally prohibited from investing in) Oculus.

As a Navy brat who's spent much of his life on the periphery of the culture described in this article, I find it utterly familiar and darkly amusing. I don't envy the people who will eventually be tasked with changing that culture

In fact, the vast majority of US wealth is tied up in private companies (and, of those, in a few extremely large companies). A wealth tax would not be ruinous for the entities paying it.
