I checked, PyPy used about 30mb, while vanilla Python was right around 3-4mb. So an order of magnitude.

This is a massive boon to a lot of my apps, especially ones with low traffic but long lived processes (I'm looking at you Django & Rails). Webfaction is definitely one of the better hosts out there, the perfect middle ground between $4/

Just in case you want something more full featured (think IP, COOKIES, POST, GZIP, STREAMS, etc...) check out http://httpbin.org/ from the same guy that brought sanity to http requests in Python: http://kennethreitz.com/

Facebook and Google (or YouTube) might be the only other internet powerhouses with enough traction to successfully pull something like this off. I hope they take a stand. It is an awful bill with awful consequences.

An excellent video on the phenomenon from the "Engineer Guy" series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Ri_HhziI0 And just in case you feel like killing about 20 minutes of your day, check out the rest of his videos. They are excellent.

Private browsing mode, available in all leading browsers. Wouldn't that effectively hide all traces of any browsing history locally, be it nefarious or otherwise? That kind of response begs the question, if you have to hide it, is it wrong

I think you make a good point, there are definitely complex situations that call for Java-esque and enterprisey tools. However, having a simple solution often trumps complex solutions when you just want to "get things done"™. I suppose it b

All API's are not made equal. Some may not be around in 2 years, some 10 years, but in the time you are forced to work with some of them, you might lose your sanity. I'm working with pretty much every type of API through my startup Zapier.c

We're doing a similar startup ( https://zapier.com/ ) and would love to use pubsubhubbub, but most API's don't stream, so we resort to polling... again. It's unfortunate, and something we'd like to work towards changing.

Two annoying things I noticed: * Spelling correction in commit messages. * Option-Z commits instead of undos when entering a commit message.

This is a good point. In my case, it was as simple as a PayPal button with an extra variable to track a product ID... pretty mundane. However, a feature to "check" (scrape) their button and ensure it is proper is probably in order.

In all honestly, it would be by removing virtually all business interests from politics. No corporate donations, no PAC's, extremely reduced effectiveness of lobbyists, etc... Good luck getting politicians to bite the hand that feeds them.

Perhaps taken in context one might have read it as "if you describe your sole value as the ability to write code, someone is already working on a way to get you fired".

I'm not sure it would be that easy. During turns and such, it may send the balloon fluttering in odd or unreadable directions. During such an emergency, its highly unlikely that the forces acting will be so consistant.
