They are implementing the APIs that the package managers expect to fetch artifacts, rather than the package managers having to know how to fetch files via Git.

Who cares how the role is classified in the payroll system? That’s now how anyone serious determines what an individual’s compensation is.

I think we are all well aware of what motivates these killers by now. Giving them more of a platform and audience won’t reduce their murders - it will bring them more followers.

The solution to ideologues who murder is not to listen to them more carefully. No one seriously suggests we need to be more respectful of the beliefs of ISIS.

It sounds like a lot of the problems you describe come from using software that assumes normal “HTTP web server” applications when you really have a custom web application.

It’s amazing to think how much collective time is wasted due to this strategy.

What is the point of comments like this besides aiming to seem smarter than the original poster? If you get your way then you would stifle open discussion and information.

Living in the northeast US I have never heard of a “code red day”. Is this a regional thing?

as the other comments here state - wait until they post the full post mortem to draw conclusions. This reads like a statement to Gmail/Youtube customers, not a post-mortem for GCP customers.

they typically post a full post-mortem in the status page of the original incident: https://status.cloud.google.com/incident/compute/19003

seems to be some comments here of some regions functioning ok, although perhaps it’s not 100% in all regions

What is the legitimate argument against this, besides knee-jerk fear of government? They already have all this data and do this work.

A useful mental exercise here: if the core team left Google, do you think they’d lose power?

In my opinion the monotonic clock example cuts against this argument - originally the core team was extremely dismissive of the idea, even though it had been shown to cause pain for a lot of people: https://github.com/golang

The problem is that Docker engine alone is not much of a project, you need something higher level to control which containers run on which machines.

I think it’s important to separate the use cases of a) deploying off the shelf software like Mysql and Redis from b) deploying your own custom built software. Helm seems a weird choice for B.
