What industry were you working in when at the Series B and Series C/D companies? Do you feel like your salaries at those companies represent the going-rate your colleagues also received?

Agreed. I'm in a similar situation (working in tech in the bay area and supporting my mom by covering her financial needs). I have two colleagues also in similar situations. It makes me wonder how many others in my peer group are faced

Thanks for putting this site together! Two pieces of feedback: 1. It would be valuable to ask for years at company and years in industry along with the reported compensation. 2. When reporting my compensation, how should I account for addit

If you describe yourself as being in IT, I suspect that means your job description is very different from that of the author’s. Comparing salaries across different types of job doesn’t make much sense.

Vulkan, as a Khronos open standard, likely wouldn't exist if Apple didn't make Metal. Khronos was content for OpenGL{ES} to sputter ad infinitum until it realized that its largest platform (iOS/macOS) was moving on. It helped

Not really. The HW design trade-offs would be very different, leading to hardware optimized for different purposes.

In reality, for most developers, it is a non-issue to bringup a new graphics API backend. See, for example, Arseny Kapoulkine's experience porting to Metal: http://zeuxcg.org/2016/12/01/metal-retrospecti

Yes, executable size is still a modern day problem. Imagine you're shipping an OS; do you want the hundreds of thousands of executables in your system to all be a few percentage larger when you're trying to ship to a customer who

What do you mean by "implementing Direct3D"? Vulkan and OpenGL expose very similar programming models at roughly the same abstraction level. If your question is "why use D3D [or insert other proprietary API] over platform-agn
