It depends on how you look at it. Right now Ring is the primary company in this market, but if they get real traction it would be easy for Google to add a button to a Nestcam and make a Nestbell. There are Chinese companies flooding the se

This was my thought too after reading this article. Part of this relies on the specific iPhone 5c from the shooter, because of the per-device hardware key. They ultimately need to unlock that specific phone, with the NAND data intact, in o

No, I'm not that surprised. I think this feature is intended to protect your personal data from the casual iPhone thief or to minimize risk if you lose/forget your iPhone somewhere. I don't think it was intended to be a sec

FWIW, the same thing goes on in Miami. I've been in the electronics shop for Miami-Dade Transit and there are always a bunch of electronic signs and signals of different vintages under repair.

This whole fiasco makes me wonder if the link between the TouchID sensor and the rest of the phone is so fragile and easily spoofed that they are concerned a fraudulent sensor could be trusted implicitly by the phone, and therefore used to

Me too. Dropbox is fast and simple, it's my "sneakernet" at home. I commonly copy files between a Mac and a PC for some projects I work on. Letting Dropbox handle the sync is the most simplistic way to go about it. Most of

I think "barrel" has become a unit of measure. Much of the oil runs through pipelines, to tankers, transported and offloaded to refineries. It wouldn't surprise me if 90% of all oil was never in an actual barrel, but even if

My understanding is that Ticketmaster has exclusive contracts with the vast majority of primary venues in the US. Nobody, artist or venue, is really choosing Tickemaster any more than a Comcast customer chooses Comcast as the only game

Really this just shows how corrupt and broken the entire entertainment ticketing stack is. TicketMaster, StubHub, etc., all prey on fans, and the fans ALLOW it by paying ridiculous fucking prices to attend events. We're long past the d

I like this idea, or let users filter by what they want to see. 200 character, 500 character, 5000 character. It still seems like twitter is trying to find their niche. The 140 character limit is long past its purpose, but it's also

This would be kind of impractical. It might work with older cameras, especially in indoor scenes. But modern cctv cameras have pretty good WDR (wide dynamic range) by default, and you'd likely find that your face gets better exposure

It seems that what Comcast is saying is that Internet traffic is "expensive" and needs to be metered, supposedly because of the costs incurred to maintain an Internet cross-connect. However, based on this statement, it seems that
