That’s whataboutism — Apple slowly has been precluding all of those from getting the latest updates officially (I think the iMac Pro is the last supported Mac without a T2 chip), and they’re ostensibly supposed to go into the landfill too,

It’s like using ssh-keygen to generate an SSH key, and entering your chosen password when prompted. This encrypts the private key, which is otherwise completely independent from the password. Not derived from it, just used to lock it.

This was ultimately what I needed to do when I wrote a systemd service that managed some firewall rules. It really was a footgun though, what with having essentially different meanings/purposes for ExecStop whether you’re doing a Type=

They use a slightly modified Ubuntu kernel ( https://github.com/proxmox/pve-kernel ), with things like ZFS added. They also really are good about using proper Debian tooling, and so their kernel doesn’t cause any weird d

This was really exciting to read, but after trying it on four NYC MTA commutes (with one transfer on each commute, so a total of 8 different train rides) over the past couple of days I’ve given up on Transit App for now… Yesterday night and

The article mentions Bomberman on the Nintendo 64, but they made a mistake — there were actually 4 different Bomberman games on the Nintendo 64, and the one featuring Jungle music is Bomberman Hero, not the one whose box art they used (Bomb

Oh, I had that very model and it very quickly got moldy in places that I couldn’t easily clean. Absolutely wouldn’t recommend it…

As someone who used to love hosting things on a Mac mini, have you tried installing Linux on it to use as a dedicated server? If you do, it should handle this just like any other platform you could install it on.

I was hoping it might work on the iOS 18 beta (after turning WebGPU on in Settings → Apps → Safari → Feature Flags), but it still didn’t work.

Does this really only show the last four digits?! I lost my AirPods Pro in an Uber back in January, and they’ve been in Lost Mode ever since, and I regularly see them moving around between three or so different places on the Find My map. No

You’re not wrong… but “static files” ultimately are infinitely less complex than any dynamic CMS, and require no effort or brain power to migrate between (even bottom-of-the-barrel) providers

Isn’t that just a container format, like what video and audio files have used for decades? I don’t know of any existing container formats with support for a relational DB as one of the embedded streams, but the whole point of container fo

Maybe if I feel motivated enough I’ll fork it and make one that uses easy-rsa, because when I look at this I don’t really see any provisions to do anything like revoking, for instance. Or really much of anything besides signing CSRs.

Thanks so much for putting this together. It’s stupid simple but that’s all it needs to be. I did something similar in the past for a self-hosted workflow, but this looks a lot more well put-together, and honestly I never thought about usin

This is one of the best things about running a home hypervisor machine (the kids call it a “homelab” these days) — I can locally deploy a development VPS like that for no extra charge, just by cloning a template.

I haven’t set it up myself yet, but at least in theory all you need to do is build and push (and sign) images to a self-hosted container registry, and then have your air-gapped systems update from that machine. I have used GitHub Actions

I’m not sure how exactly you turn a Dockerfile into a Firecracker VM, but I suppose this is an alternative method to that . Surely you can even boot a bootc-enabled container image like this on a Firecracker MicroVM.
