Whether or not you believe in climate-change, the interesting discussion to me is that climate change is a convenient justification for power-grabs by wannabe dictators. I'm not so sure that the elite will be so ready to give up that l

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think law abiding citizens should bear the burden of those who break the law. If people outside those prison walls are forced to get a job, then the people inside those walls should be no exception.

Yeah, I don't understand why prison labor should be controversial as long as they're not being treated terribly. Give them minimum wage if weighs on your conscience, and pay it out in a lump sum when they get out.

Election denialism isn't new here, it's a healthy tenet of a functioning democracy. The Republicans did it in '20, the democrats did it in' 16, the democrats did it in '00. The people need the freedom to question an

It's a double-edged sword. On one edge there's the risk of greed, but it's also unparalleled in incentivizing and rewarding ambition.

Have you tried it? I don't see any rust code in your github profile. Personally, I don't think it's that bad. I did it in 2020, and thought it was (mostly) easy. A few weeks of wrestling with the borrow checker until I finall

They added a LAN server, and it's broken as it stands today. (Tried to play a LAN game with my brother and sister two weeks ago.) It's broken and they don't seem to care, which is a huge shame.

What other industry is allowed to inspect itself? It completely ruins the point of an inspection. It's like being the judge and jury in your own trial. I'm amazed this is a thing in the first place.

I don't consider it an added cost, you're just moving the cost upfront to reduce long-term pain. Ruby apps are easy to build, but are difficult to maintain. Rust apps take a bit more effort to build, but are easier to maintain.

I know, right? When did obvious things become hype and "need literature"? Type bugs are an obvious thing and happen all the time. Not hype, but an obvious fact: "Static Typing reduces type related bugs."

After 10 years in Ruby, I moved onto Rust four years ago, and don't plan on really looking back. But with that said, I'm glad you love Ruby! There are certainly things to love. Personally, I just can't do without a good type

Being harder to update is the point. With ruby being untyped and lazy evaluated, it's even worse. If any library's api changes between versions, unless you're sure you have a unit test for that function, it'll happily de

Having spent considerable time in both Java and Elixir, I would also choose Kotlin (or Java) over Elixir as a backend language. I worked in Elixir for over a year, and frankly was quite disappointed with it. Elixir has a lot of good ideas,

Things done in the name of God or religion are not the same as being motivated by the fear of God. Plus, even so, your sentiment is generally not true - the modern western world was built on Judeo-Christian values.
