Censorship usually is not associated with filtering true vs. false information. From wikipedia: Censorship is the suppression or deletion of material, which may be considered objectionable, harmful or sensitive, as determined by a censor.

Yeah, there does seem to be some confusion on that point. The Terms and Conditions say that it has to be written in Java, but the FAQ just says that it "should" be written in Java. Hopefully they'll change it...

On the topic of deliverables--if you're adept at HTML and CSS, you can probably save money by asking the designer to just send you the Photoshop (.psd) or Illustrator (.ai) file, and maybe image slices if they can do it quickly. I've done i

That calculation assumes that the risk-free rate is 5%, and that you will get $1 per year forever (i.e., considering the company to be an annuity that pays $1 per year forever). A more general formula is: Value = (Annual revenue) / (interes

Existing extensions are a great source for example code... as long as they're written in JavaScript, extensions are as open source as HTML pages. Just download the extension and unzip it.

In high school I wrote a simple web-based voting app for school elections (an election I was running in, no less)... had I wanted to rig the election, it would have been trivial to do so and cover my tracks. As downer articulated, there's a

If you're going to be using PHP then I would strongly recommend finding a host that will let you install Fedora 7/8. I had to set up a PHP environment on 64-bit Ubuntu recently and it wa s a major pain. The PHP binary from apt-get was 5.1.

Memory is important, but I wouldn't skimp on the CPU. In my experience (a rails app on mongrel/nginx and a php5 app on lighttpd/nginx), CPU has been the bottleneck, not memory. It's also a lot easier to add memory than to increase CPU power

If subversion is already working ok then I guess there's no pressing reason to switch, but if you want to try something new, git ( http://git.or.cz/course/svn.html ) seems pretty cool so far (been using it for about a week). You can put the

No complaints here either, I've been using Fedora 7 on a T60 for the past 5 months or so and it's been great. Hardware feels solid. Driver-wise everything works except hibernate.

the biggest bottleneck is the speed of thinking, not the speed of typing. I agree, but I've had experiences where I get a glimpse of the solution in my mind and I struggle to get it down fast enough, afraid that I might lose it before I g

how do you get a significant number of "friends" on those networks who are willing to watch/read your spam? One method I've seen work pretty well is to hire people to actually establish semi-legitimate personas on open social networks lik
