Apple competes on price in ways that preserves their brand- offering more for the same price, clearance/refurb section, previous model at a discounted price. I agree with Kottke, Apple has a huge ability to compete on price if needed, and I

As an engineer, I had to think really hard to imagine this world you describe where people have meetings around the other side of the desk. Luckily, I've seen offices in movies. The back could be closed up assuming you're running everythin

Obviously you haven't been around my wife when she loses the last 5 minutes of a show. SLA or no, services will get cancelled.

See, the sarcasm doesn't work here because intelligent people designed stable bikes . You don't look at a bike and think, thank you evolution. Sorry, pet peeve.

My Motorola phone did OTA updates 10 years ago. As gruber pointed out, that is likely to be the first to go from iTunes. What he doesn't mention are the reasons Apple doesn't need to cut the cord- it helps their ecosystem. I need to insta

I read it as an offhand comment to the effect of: remember when people at Microsoft thought that "Don't be evil" (and Google in general) was a joke?

That is a pretty strange analogy, but I suppose if the world economy depended on you trampling my imaginary vegetables, I suppose I would be pretty happy with 5-nines.

I'd say the flag help forum (and the help forums in general) are prime examples of "consistently awful, frustrating experience".

I really must be "blind". I can see the difference side-by-side (especially the moving ball) but the difference is so slight. Even 15fps looked fine to me. If you showed them to me back-to-back, I don't think I could tell the difference.

Skip the internet on April 1. It's not worth the brain power trying to sort news from pranks.

I have no reservations about making a 'reddit' comment in a thread named "The Motherfucking Manifesto For Programming, Motherfuckers". It's humorous, people.

A great point in the article, but IMO this is a function of the screen size, not iOS. The core problem is reducing the pain of switching apps. On a desktop, screen resolution and space allows you to position windows side-by-side or overlap

I agree there are no huge surprises, but I think you are underestimating the difficulty of redesigning the form factor in under a year. Even just changing processors, radio chips, adding gyro, camera in the exact same mechanical form factor

What can I say- if you are hearing the echo, it's their phone or the network. Maybe they're using speakerphone more? Maybe the network changed somehow?

If you're hearing an echo, that means echo cancellation is not working, either in your network or the network of the person you are calling. I don't believe handsets do any echo cancellation.

The gas pedal getting "stuck" is a result of the scary, not the cause. About to hit something unexpectedly->slam foot down on wrong pedal->omg the car accelerated when it should have stopped!

I don't see the point of getting a frowny face on a website for fun. But the point is, if you're not happy then putting a frown is exactly what you should do to let them know you weren't happy. Out of spite or whatever other reason, the

Exactly the opposite. The content should be fetch as-needed. Background fetching would get all the content whether or not it's ever read. If all the apps I've grown tired of are still fetching data in the background, that IS more battery

I have the same feeling about HN. I've been regularly visiting HN for a year now, commenting when I have something insightful and voting articles and comments up if they're exceptional. Yet I still don't have enough karma to downvote. Th

Google doesn't just remove sites from their index. They will always be there. But if you think a different site should rank higher than these spammy ones, you should mention it and maybe someone can look at it. (I don't work for Google.)
