I really like the books by Mark Murphy at commonsware.com. I have submitted some errata to Mark, and I think I have a spare coupon code you could use for a 6 month subscription if you want to take a look. My email is in my profile. Mark als

Taking failure off the table out of excessive concern for hurting fragile feelings does everyone a disservice There's more at stake than students' hurt feelings. Your anecdotes aside, statistics show that retaining students is expensive a

But what is the message that students get from social promotion? How about that there is no incentive to learn An educational system that incentivizes learning via fear of failure (public humiliation in this case) is broken. This false di

Please don't put me in the position of defending BP. I have no affiliation with them, and I don't know all the details. However, your argument here either is ignoring elements of the decision-making process or isn't logical, and your number

I don't know anything about their design decisions and shouldn't comment on them. However, my understanding is that a secondary device is not mandated in the US. If that's true, I expect it will change before more deepwater drilling is perm

There is. It's a 450 ton device called a blowout preventer It didn't activate and they have been trying to do it manually for several days. I work in the oil and gas industry and live along the gulf coast. It's a heart wrenching situation.

The immediate health benefits of organic food might be questionable, but there is little question that the fertiluzer in the runoff is detrimental to coastal areas. The article mentions this.

The one thing I wonder about is disconnecting during the sync. A couple of times I have disconnected iPod Nanos during sync and had to restore them. It wasn't much more than a nuisance, admittedly, but on a slower sync with more data transf

It seems that they are eerily insistent on transferring the data through their servers. Judging from their job board, it's because they plan to mine the data. http://bu.mp/jobs#data

I have found the hardest part of self-learning to be finding peers and mentors, but I live in a technological wasteland. The internet has made it easier, but it's not the same. When I socialize with friends, they don't care to talk about pr

That's not my personal review. It's a review from the perspective of my wife and in-laws. They don't use smartphones and are the kind of users that like to do things in familiar ways. I think it's interesting that kids take to the device mo

It feels solid, but wouldn't call it durable. It definitely feels like the kind of thing you wouldn't want to drop. I'm constantly worried about the screen getting scratched, though I know it is inevitable.

My kid has a leapfrog, but that doesn't curb her curiosity about other devices. I don't know how it is with others, but my kid is fascinated with all my computers. My netbook, my MBP, my Droid, my Touch, and now my iPad. I don't discourage

My wife is dubious. She doesn't like the lack of Flash. She doesn't like trying to type on the software keyboard. Her parents, definite technophobes, were intimidated by it. The first thing they wanted to look at was a slideshow on smugmug.

Why? The iPhone has mobile Safari, and the HN clientele are certainly smart enough to know how to use it. Clearly the app has to deliver some value outside of the content. Think bottled water.

What this basically means is that you have to do more: read more source, learn more conceptions and tools, support more code, fix more bugs. I think the biggest advantage to Cappucino is that, if you already know the Cocoa framework, ther
