My fav: $device = $_GET['device']; $state = $_GET['state']; exec( "sudo ./send " . $device . " " . $state ); EDIT: it is for home automation, but also appears to be a CS class group project.

Utah relies on mountain reservoirs, some of which you're not supposed to swim in. That said, some people do. Our water is great. This is beyond silly.

I agree that distinguishing between compound and non-compound statements is terrible. However, so is using whitespace-delimited blocks (sorry, Python). I wish he'd proposed the simple solution Go uses: require braces.

How does buying access matter? It's like giving access to see other player's cards in poker (because you're a high roller) and then making bets based on it. The rest of the players only see their cards and the river. That&

Hahaha. Yes. When big brokers can peek at trade data before the public and do HFT before you can even look at a chart and click "buy," it's pretty damn rigged.

This sums up my career. We should grab a beer and bitch about work. That's what most of my colleagues do to cope.

After reading the site my impression is this just a (somewhat) fancier PGP key server. They're tackling the issue of making PGP easier for people, which I commend. Time will tell if it gets traction.

You've ruined a syntax designed to fix a lot of common syntax errors by replacing all that work with Python syntax. Gross.

Iterative development is the only part of agile that's right. Everything else in agile is just fluff built around this.

I really thought Agile was cool. Then I endured pointless meetings, meaningless planning estimation and observed how people make a career around preaching Agile. I quickly observed the real goal of agile is not to produce software, but rat

My opinion is not that everyone who has kids is screwed. My observations are that many people don't plan it well. This is possibly not the same issue in the tech centers where the salaries are middle-rich class and people are general

At least you responsibly considered this. Having a family is a big deal in Utah, and we have too many people who just go for it in their early 20s, no college, no career path. It doesn't end well. I'm not anti-family, but I res

Then why the hell are all these lame StackOverflow questions making the front page? If I wanted a SO answer I'd go to that site, not HN.

I don't hold much value to this theory for now, but it's not totally absurd given how many truthers think 9/11 was run by the US itself. This isn't as bad as that.

So this pool has 8,832 members. Even if they're unique, 8832 out of how many possibilities there are isn't changing your odds much.

The cost and scarcity of ASICs will just centralize the mining power into the hands of a few groups. Not so decentralized at that point.

I think a big problem is using web technologies to learn to code. They're used because they're "simple," but that's kind of relative. It's simple when you already have a good CS foundation. When I started in
