The transition was "democratic" yes, but it became a fascist state operated by the military.

It's in the military's interest to limit the freedom and empowerment of the public as much as possible. I would take their opinions with a grain of salt. With that said, this seems like something that can be easily solved with tec

Isn't the point of Keybase that they let you control the private keys? I don't use it so I don't know, but my impression was that they were trying to make encryption and key management easy.

IQ is just a metric from taking a standardized test. I don't know why people have a hard time understanding that. It's like being mad about people's SAT scores. It's not like IQ is even used for anything important, peopl

This is one of several reasons why I refuse to install apps unless I absolutely must. You have no way of knowing what kind of spyware is bundled with them, and there's no way to block it (like you can in a proper browser with uBlock Or

I use pi-hole, and it's great, but for browsers you still need something like uBlock Origin installed to properly block ads. The thing I like about pi-hole is it also blocks a long list of trackers that are bundled by various mobile SD

Try moving to a new city. I had a similar experience and moved from SF to NYC. NYC is less of a techie bubble than SF. You didn't mention where you live, but I just assumed it's somewhere in the Bay area.

This is just how capitalism works. It's about allocating capital in the most efficient way, and as far as Amazon is concerned workers are a dime a dozen. If workers complain, you can just fire them and hire someone else to do the job.

I'm a little disappointed tbh. It's good that they fixed the keyboard and brought back the escape key, but the screen hasn't been improved and I was really hoping they'd make it slightly larger, close to 14" with th

What is or isn't acceptable at the time is largely a matter of fashion and opinions. As an example, have a look at the ALA's compiled list of banned books (some of which are banned for ridiculous reasons): http://www.al

YouTube is a de facto public utility at this point. IMO if they want it to be a closed ecosystem, they should not allow public access the way they currently do. There's no good alternative to YouTube (yet) but I hope there is some day.

Yeah, and just imagine what politicians could get away with if they had laws that allowed them to prevent people from speaking their mind.

IMO censorship is wrong. To quote someone smarter than me: > I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2015/06/01/defend-say/

This is a common rebuttal. Nobody is suggesting the virus is a hoax, or that it's not killing anyone, or that it isn't bad. What people are saying is that 1) these lockdown measures aren't effective and 2) the side effects

Yeah, I understand that. Fear is, without a doubt, the most powerful emotion. And I'll admit, there were times I was fearful. I live in NYC and during the peak the streets were eerily quiet and I was afraid people would start rioting.
