The increase of value of debt is the big problem, which is in the original op because banks get stuck with a lot of bad debt and many would fail. While this is unfortunate, I see it as garbage collection for the economy. Once completed, t

I don't agree that a reduction in growth (recession or depression) is a deflationary spiral. Yes, there was deflation, but it didn't go into an uncontrolled tailspin. The problem was the old canard of irrational exuberance and ex

Well, yes. But those who insist that deflation is terrible are hardly going to agree that the depression was made worse by all the ham fisted attempts to fix it.

I would believe these types of pop-economics articles a lot more if they could actually find and example of a deflationary spiral causing a long term depression. Prices for many things already do decrease regularly. Every time I purchase a

I think the best frame of reference is to look at colonisation by British in comparison to other countries. The difference is that the British tended to leave behind a system of governance wbased on English common law, which stretches back

Don't governments always write themselves an exemption from following laws for everyone else? I imagine they are exempt by law from things that would land others in court or jail.

I guess my point is that giving for animal conservation is very inefficient and nt at all transparent. If you want to protect the animals, push for things that will help the economies grow in the countries with the animals. Animal poachin

Don't forget BTTF is complete with generic middle eastern terrorists, something still relevant today but absolutely unheard of in 1955. I would say the cultural and technological shifts between 55 and 85 were far bigger. In 55 space tr

It's to do with how close the cops are following. The bootlegger turn uses the opposite lane for more time and spends time in the existing lane at the start of the turn, rather than at the end with the regular turn. So it's about
