Reading the description of my type for the first time after eye-rolling my way through a test was a bizarre experience. Its accuracy made me suspect that there was something to it.

MBTI is more complicated than that. Those four preferences interact to form a fuller picture of the personality type. Regardless of whether you choose to view it as informative, it certainly has more depth than a Facebook quiz. http://en.w

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. The author's conclusion, supported by the statement's context, is that viewers referred by search engines will get a paragraph and a subscription nag. It's certainly more reasonable than removing his sites

This is really disappointing. I was about to buy a T400 after my way-too-expensive and way-too-flimsy HP Pavillion's screen finally died. It was the rock-solid construction and nonshit keyboard that drew me to it. Is there anything like tha

Have you heard of the "It's All Text" Firefox extension? It copies the content of any textarea to a tempfile and opens it up in an external editor of your choice. Writes to the tempfile are copied back to the textarea. It's not quite in-bro

I think the problem with Joel's post is that you have to read between the lines to understand what he's advocating. He knows that a strong voice makes for a more compelling blog, but that caused his message of balance and tradeoffs to get m

Sounds an awful lot like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analysis_paralysis#Personal_ana... . I've certainly been there (well, I am there), and I don't know of a solution, if there is such a thing. The conclusion I've come to for myself is

Great idea. I'm not sure how useful it is to me since IPython can do the same and I rarely code without it, but I'll grab it and see if I find myself using it. Come to think of it, if this were a command within Vim I'd use it all time time.

I personally find that kind of professionalism to be stodgy and counterproductive. If you really care whether someone uses a briefcase or a backpack, your concerns are misplaced. (Excepting politeness, of course. I consider that to be an im

Yeah, the VPN paragraph had me laughing. Surely one of those 14 blogs should've mentioned "sudo apt-get install network-manager-vpnc". VPN is a breeze on Ubuntu.

My access point is wide open but SSID broadcast is disabled. Considering the number of visible open APs in my apartment building, that's probably enough to keep the random bandwidth leach or mischievous wardriver away.

I'm glad they put their point about education at the top. Microsoft has pretty much guaranteed that any computer education a child in this country receives will be a lesson in how to use Windows or Office.

They mention the OpenDocument format, which is a great example of Microsoft actively resisting the adoption of an open standard, arguably for business reasons. Yeah it's Sun's baby and so naturally OpenOffice supports it, but I don't think

Ugh: The job of all artists is now self-promotion. In an age in which the old cultural gatekeepers are being swept away, the most pressing challenge of creative artists is to build their own brands. And it’s the Internet which provides cre

I agree that this article straddles the line, but like you point out, it's a big fuzzy line. I think it's best to just flag and move on.
